Winter Prawn Fishery Remains Open

Winter fishery for prawn will remain open in Howe Sound this year.

The Stock Assessment crew did a prawn spawner index survey in November. The
target index at 125% for the month of November is 4.0. The data below
represents stock assessment's best estimate by subarea for spawner index.
The first four subareas are very strong, with some weakness in the top
(Squamish). The overall index is relatively strong at 5.3.

With indexes as these, the winter recreational fishery will remain open.
Stock assessment will be returning in February of 2007 for another survey.
