Proposed open-pit coal mine in Fernie, BC
Posted on January 23rd, 2007 by Rodney Hsu, webmaster
Please read and make comments regarding a proposed open-pit coal
mine 50 km south of Fernie, BC. This area of BC is incredibly diverse.
A coal mine here would devastate the local and downstream fish and
wildlife populations that rely on the river system.
The maximum life of this energy plan is 20 years. The environmental
impacts would be everlasting.
There is coal and coalbed methane on Vancouver Island, Princeton,
the Kootenays and around Smithers. If we allow projects like the
Lodgepole Coal Mine these places are next.
