Plan to head out for some sockeye action on Friday (day off  ). No boat so the question is.....is Peg Leg crossable now? I have chest waders. It's just that I have had conflicting reports that you can't cross it yet to get to the bar. Someone please tell me if it's worth the drive from east vancouver. I plan to fish Peg Leg from 6.00 am till noon and then head off to the Vedder. Thanks in advance  .

Was there Monday & Tuesday in my boat.  Thousands crossed Monday and quite a few on yesterday.  Before going to the vedder, condisder the fact that you hopefully will have sockeye in your cooler.  I wouldn't want to be you if DFO stops you at the Vedder with Sox in your box.  Try it the other way round.

Thanks grumman. Maybe I should try Vedder first and then Peg Leg. So what you're saying is that you can now cross and get to the bar without much difficulty right? How deep is it when you cross? Is the current fast. After hearing reports of guys drowning in their waders, I am kinda worried  .

I have a boat and have not walked it.  I heard reports that late last week it was not walkable.  However, I do know, from launching at Island 22, the water hase dropped 3 feet from Friday to Monday.  There are trucks going across and I know they can't carry as many people as saw fishing Monday and Tuesday.  My educated guess is that you can walk it.  Hopefully someone else with 1st hand knowledge can help you.

Drowning? Wear a wading belt and use a belly pack to hold your gear.  You can get rid of the 20lb belly pack with one hand.  Try taking off a vest when your going down.

Thanks Gman. Hopefully it will drop some more in the next few days or is the rain we got now will make it rise? Just don't wan't to drive all that far to find out I can't cross it  . Somebody from this site must have crossed it............anybody.......please help  . Thanks.

Ahans, yes you can wade out to the main river bank. I was out there this a.m. for my first try this year. Parked my truck at the entrance and slogged my way there.Had to cross two side channels and the second one was about up to 3 1/2 ft deep with fairly strong current so wade cautiously as you may be steeping into a  depression and get a dunking. For the 3 hours I was there it was pretty slow and the boat guys anchored mid-river were doing much better than the shore bunch.The boat  guys directly in front of us netted quite few socks but it looked like you had to cast out at least 150/200 yds to reach the fishy spot.  Both my partner and I were skunked as well as others close by. Nice day and very enjoyable with that cool breeze.

Check this page for fish stocks in the river (http://www.psc.org/TestFish/SummPage.htm).  Add 1-2 days for chilliwack and 2-3 days for above Agassiz-Rosedale bridge.  If the #'s are above 100 for that day you should get your 2.  When the #'s reach 300+, you'll be in & out in an hour.

Was at pegleg on tuesday morning, and was lucky enough to leave by 10:30 with two sockeye. If you cross the channel in the right spots it will reach about mid thigh in the deepest spot. Just look for the tailouts.

200 yard cast?? very easy with right setup (Alvey side reel, braided line, shock leader, 2 oz weight)

i am  a little over 5 feet tall, can wade over to peg leg without getting wet? is the current too strong for me to wade across taking in account  of my height and iam only 150 pounds.

I think you misunderstood me.What I meant to say was the fishy area midriver appeared to be about 150 yds out. I can sling the 3 oz betty a good distance with my center-drag coffee grinder but no way that far with 20# mono. My estimate is +/-  20% re the distance. Since that was my baptism of fire with the BigGame 7000 reel I will re-spool with PowerPro 50# test to get max. casting distance and save myself some betties.

So if the test fishery for area 29 says only 10 sockeyes netted how bad will this be for the next few days?

Was ther this morning early!  Was slow but was able to land a couple!  Tough to fight through the legs of those who wont move!  Someone said that people are polite and cooperative at Peg , is there another Peg Leg!!

I find it can really vary where along the bar you are.  When I was at Laidlaw, the guys around me were quick to move if you had a fish, while just above, I watched as fish swam almost through some legs

Do as I do when others don't want to move. Move the sockeye to where they're not.

eg: Fish on....angler doesn't move....take fish on down past him or behind him. If he really causes you to lose it....state "Thanks partner"...carry on. Fish gods have ways of equaling the score.
