Title: vedder sept 22
Post by: scruffy on September 22, 2006, 05:05:44 PM
so had my day off today  ;D  and decided to head to the vedder to try my luck again ::) got to my  spot at first lite and the fish we jumping :o excited as i was started to gear up and made the first cast about 5:45am still dark and couldn't really see my float so waited till there was enough lite then tried again,by about the 7-8 cast the float goes for a dive and it's on about 5Min's later i pull in my first HO of the season about  6lbs of chrome chrome buckness ;D i check to see if its a hatchery and no it wasn't :P so off the buck goes, next thing i know my bud calls fish on and he's into something strong and seemed big,  5-10 later he pulls his first chum of the year not to bad looking  of a doe around the 10lbs range. From this point on it seemed that everyone around started to catch as the the guy next to me lands a 18lbs white  :o  and few Min's later a couple of jacks came out as well buy the time we left the count on the shore was two whites one 18lbs the other a little smaller 3 jacks and 1 chum, released 3 wild Ho's so not to bad of  a morning. The only fish that belong to us was the chum  :D oh well always another day good luck to and tight lines.

nice report there scruffy, sounds like the fish are steadily moving in now
hopefully that last over a longer period of time then just that one day
i was thinking of going for the first time to the vedder this year on sunday
to try it out but was wondering what kind of bait/equiepment should i consider getting
that might work (considering im fishing with a baitcast reel)?
tight lines everyone!!!

Sounds Good
I was out at the vedder today as well. Lots of springs being caught down in the lower end. I also saw about 6 chums a jack and 2 coho caught. Biggest white was 25 + pounds :o Its starting to pick up

i would use roe ,some people like the pro cured stuff and some like the boraxed stuff it depends on the water condition i use pro cured when there's colour to the water and boraxed when clear,as for equipment i use my trophy 10'6" light action rod rated 8-17lbs with a 5500 cs rocket spooled with 12lbs main, the leader i was on today was 10lbs ANDE line and a dynk float with a short leader about 12" with a small hook size#4,and finally pencil lead.Good luck to you when you head out tight lines  :)

Just got off the phone with my brother. He fished for about 2 hours, managed to hook into 3 coho but was unsuccessful at landing any of them. Some of the other guys fishing the same spot did well also, including one 14lb hatchery coho.

Just wittness the biggest coho I have ever seen caught,
20 plus pounds hatchery snagged at the guantlet along with a 40 pound spring.
Also snagging at this guantlet were a couple members from FWR.
Snag fest today!
I wish i could have bonked the chum that was snagged on every cast, brought in, released, and caught again. poor fish! :'(
Oh yeah people keep the sturgeon line off your spinning reels and upgrade your trout rod to a longer stronger salmon rod, I think it will give you better controll with your leaders.

Sounds good, looks like I am going to have to get up extra early tomorrow!!   ;D

Ok well, the snagging thing doesn't sound good, not at all.  But the fact that some fish were caught and showing themselves, that souinds good!! ;D n Just might get into something before the clean-up afterall!! ;D

The Clean-up is starting at Thompson Park.  The signup is between 8:30 and 9:30!!  But as for telling where they are, who are you talking to??  ;D I already know where they are, could you expect anything else!!  Besides, I also have some scouts on the river today, checking out a bunch of other places for tomorrow!! ;D
