I don't mind the rain, but between Merc myself and at least 30 other guys ioth fly and gear I didn't see one fish legally hooked the whole time, which was vey surprising as last week it was fish on almost every cast

AMAZING !

Yeah, I was thinking about heading out today - how was the wind up there ? Was fairly blustery around here in town.
-
Did I mention it was wet and rained a lot today? ;D Oddly enough, there wasn't much wind in Squamish but there was on the way there and on the way back by Lions Bay.
-
I went yesterday and it was great!!! No rain, no poeple, lots of fish. There are a lot of boots out there now, but there still are fresh ones coming through. I hit one of the other rivers up there and it was even better. Nice to walk while you fish to keep the blood flowing in the feet.
Has anyone been up to the upper squamish? Would like to head up soon!

Awsome report!, sounds like a fun day ::)

I was fishing at Mamquam and got into quite few fish (correctly caught), but kept only one that wasn't a boot. Friend of mine got a clean one as well. It wasn't too bad of day, but I agree that Squamish was bad. I fished for 15 min and gave up as I couldn't see any fresh fish, nobody was catching anything and wind was just blowing down.
Seen a guy fishing from the railway bridge. I couldn't believe it, and I kept one eye on him while fishing. I was hoping he will not plunge to I think certain death. At that time Mamquam was raging bellow the bridge. He was there with his little son. If he went down, only what I could do is to call 911. At one moment this guy gets a fish on, and I just couldn't stop watching him while he was trying to reach the end of bridge. Finally he safely reached the end, and kept fish. After that we talked a bit, and I offered him to fish from my spot as I was leaving any way. When I warned him that it was extremely dangerous what he was doing, he mentioned that his son was frightened too, but that he is an excellent swimmer? I never fished from a bridge but would really like even not to see anybody doing this for your own sake. There is no way I would be able to swim out of that water and do not know why anybody would put their life on the line like that for a fish, specially having your little kid next to you. Guys (and girls) please be careful.

hey Thick,
I have no friends, so usually fish alone :'(, so hard to operate the camera while holding fish. also, I pretty much fish in the pouring rain, as I fish whenever I cannot work due to the bad weather. One thing for sure, where I was fishing on sunday, they love to hammer pink marabou jigs, shortfloated, like 3 inches between med. dink float and 1 inch pencil lead, with 22 inch leader, fished within 20 to 30 ft. of shore in about 3 or 4 ft. of water. also, fished about 1/2 mile upstream from the parking lot, just before the tailout. I'll be there a week tomorrow, so hopefully they'll still be there. one other thing to consider, in bad weather, the Mamquam blows out early, and if you fish below it, you'll lose vis. earlier than upriver. the only bad thing that affects the Squamish where I was fishing, is the lovely choco water of the Cheekeye.

Yeah thx for the advice! Merc wanted to fish there but we were already at the Mamquam and it was pissing down rain :o
I know we should have moved but oh well, at least someone got into some fish !!
cheers Rick

gonna hit it up in the mornin tomorrow.... reports to follow

When fishing the Squamish, it is always smart to chase the fish. Nothing at lower Squamish, try Mamquam & Cheakamus/Cheekeye. Way back there used to be a frog pond near old Fergie Lodge at confluence of Cheakamus & Cheekeye where tons of fish would rest.

FISH ON !

Hmmm, will have to think about that liketofish. It kinda makes sense. Everyone who was catching fish seemed to be up river a bit.
