Hi all...
ventured out to the Squamish yesterday to see how bad it is. The Squamish itself is still REALLY high and muddy.
The Mamquam is clearing up but is also still a bit high. It looks fishable though...
There were a few guys fly-fishing at the mouth of the Mamquam below the BC Rail bridge. I did not see anyone land anything or even have any action.
They gave up after 2 hours or so... so did I (spin casting).... no fish... :'(
I will check every few days.... they gotta be here soon.

thnx for the report, will be heading up that way next week some time. probably will go check out the cheak instead of those 2. I will also be heading up to whistler lakes so i will tell you all how it goes.

I like the Cheakamus but it is way higher than the Mamquam and murky right now. It has more run-off from higher up.
Give it another week or two...

do think it is even worth an hour or so or should i just fish around whistler?

Hey Hickman, when you were at the Chek were you looking at the river below the creek or above?? I know the last time I was up there the river was unfishable at the first bridge, but when we ventured upstream to the second bridge above the creek the water was much lower and crystal clear... that creek was like pure mud flowing into the river !! I would like to get up there soon and have a look myself :D

thats true that creek is always giving the river some colour but there is alot of water coming from the damn probably since the upper river leads right into daisy and it comes from the mountains

I assume that you are talking about the Chekeye that flows into the Cheakamus.
I was referring to the Cheakamus along Paradise Valley Road, the lower Cheakamus.
In terms of most promising fishing in the next few days/ weeks I would think the mouth of the Mamquam will be OK - if at all.
BTW, I went up to Cat Lake last night to hang with friends - lots of action around 8 to 9.30PM. Should still be good fishing... I might try it out.

... just a quick update on the Squish...
Went out for a couple of hours late afternoon, fished the Mamquam below the railway bridge... no takers. Actually did not see any rolling or jumping.
Half a dozen people out there around the mouth of the Mamquam - nobody caught anything.
Talked to a couple of guys who said that a few chinooks have been hooked in the mornings around the railway bridge, not sure about pinks.
The Squamish has come down by ~3ft but is still muddy, so is the Cheakamus.
Fishing the Mamquam should be good/ better in the next few days. I might try it early mornings or late evening on the weekend...

All of the Squamish system streams are running dirty and very high. The Mamquam is the closest to comming back in shape. No evidence of pinks in the system yet. Chinook jacks are open in all systems except the Cheakamus. Pinks will definitely not be open in the Cheakamus and it's likely not in the other systems as well unless run strength increases. I am running a chinook program in Howe Sound and also monitoring pink by-catch for fish management. To date have seen almost 0 pinks. Program has entered it's second week and I'm seeing only 1 - 2 pinks a day. In past years, I have captured lots of pinks by this time of the year so the lack of fish is just a bit disconcerting. Howe Sound is dirty but is starting to clean up and I don't know how this effects catch and migration patterns. Here's to hoping that there just a bit late.

Totally agree with the water levels. Last year at this time it looked quite different. I think, it would be good to leave the Pinks alone for this year at least.
The regulations say that the Cheakamus is open for Chinooks, I think.
I will venture out on the weekend for a day and report back....

Brief update from the Mamquam:
Went out last night for a couple of hours. Quite a bit of jumping & rolling action after 8PM below the railway bridge. A few people fishing - nothing caught while I was there. People were fly fishing, casting and float fishing....
Fish around 5lb have been caught that day I was told...
It was definitely a few steps up from last week.
