Title: Chasing the Illusive Fraser River Pink Salmon <sept 4th>
Post by: THE_ROE_SLINGER on September 04, 2007, 10:37:33 PM
Thought I would throw in a report seing it has been a while. Been pretty busy with hockey  and when I'am not im fishing ;D

Like most evenings I made my way down to the lower fraser for some pink action and possibly sturgeon afterwards. Gave "cohobeeker" a ring to see if he was up for the challenge. His reply was yes sir. Got the boat all setup and in the water by 5:30ish Decided to try one of my favorite spots first just below the portmann bridge. On arrival was suprised to see "Hookset" and his buddy tossing hardware from the shore. I could see from far away there facial expression was that of no fish for them ;D So being as kind as I'am I swooped in and picked him up for some REAL action ;D  After a 5 minute drive lower river I arrived at Destination #2.

Usually the fish seem to hold here a little longer due to the slower water. After 45 minutes Of nothing and seing no jumpers decided to pull anchor and move even further down. Anchored just in front of "Brownsville" bar. This spot has produced for me so far this year and was hoping today I would also. Right away I was into a nice 5-6lb buck. After a short but scrappy battle the buck was netted and retained. We then toughed it out here for another 45 minutes or so with no luck and once again seing No jumpers.

My decision was to head back up river where I found some fish in previous nights. This turned out to be the best decision of the day :D Right away fish were rolling and it wasent long after A small doe was netted.  In the next 30 minutes the action was excellent with multiple hook ups however only one more landed. Right before dark decided to Try trolling crocs for a change. Within 30 seconds Both rods start to dance with cody and myself Grabbing them. However in the end both fish managed to wiggle themselves to freedom near the boat to continue there journey up river.

All in all a excellent and very peacefull day on the water.

Remember A Bad day fishing..Is better than a good day at school ;)

Head out after work to Surrey area. Fishing was not hot at first but the fish came afterwards and many people were into fish. Saw many fish surfaced in schools . I got 3 hits and landed one buck. People were saying the morning bite was even better with guys limiting out.  Looks like they are coming in larger number now. Go get them boys. Tight line.  :)

The Fraser is a murky river, and visibility varies, but is often about 1 foot. Larger spoons seem to work a bit better when visibility is poor.
