Skunked. two straight trip.
Gave the stave a try for the first time this year, water level is just ordinary as the flow is controled by the dam. Fished lures and wools, couldn't get any bit at all. Saw a few pinks rolling, and chums r definitely there already. saw a few of them jumping near toilet bowl. then we left at around 4pm as the rain started to pour. a kid caught two pinks and properly released them, good to see that. but i am sure as the fish started to show, the typical stave river gong show/snag fest would present too. Another week of time, we would see the stave full of dogs. :)

Was there today as well. You might have seen me. Tired looking kid in a Bare Wader/Jacket combo (dark green) holding a G. Loomis rod w/Islander centrepin. I moved into toilet bowl and dropped my float in where the spawning channel overflowed into the bowl. Hooked something small and saw what looked to be a chum roll.

Just wondering if there is a spot where you are not allowed to fish at stave at all coz i was able to spoon a doe pink at noon today, and a guy told me that where i was fishing is a no fishing zone.

Based on the Freshwater Fishing Regulation Synopsis, there are no closed areas in the Stave River. The only area that maybe closed is the spawning channel at the BC Hydro Ruskin Dam picnic area (in front of the toilet bowl). Even that, I am having trouble finding a closure notice from the BC Hydro website:
http://www.bchydro.com/recreation/mainland/mainland1211.html
Anyway, fishing is the spawning channel is not recommended.
