Particularly interested in the Trophy XL WinterRun
Has anyone tried one?
What about the others like Okuma and Raven etc.
Thanks ;)

I've got an Okuma Aventa VT1002 and Raven Classic reel. Both are bearing reels. For the price I paid ($170 for the Okuma and $125 for the Raven) they are fine. You can always upgrade the bearings on both reels to ABEC 7 or 9. I've upgraded the bearings on the Raven and it is decidely smoother. That cost about $25. Have heard that the Winter Run is not a particularly strong reel and there are some warpage issues but can't provide first hand commentary. Trophy also put out another reel, (Wild Water series, I think) that is a Silex clone. It's pretty tough but still needs some tweaking in certain areas. Jetboat Jim had one at one point but returned it because of some of those issues that need to be resolved.
If you're considering a Raven, check out this site for prices:

For the price range of a Winter run, take a good look at the Raven Vecta SST or Okuma Sheffield reels.

IF you going for the Trophy winter run... you better off get the new Trophy wild river.. Its way better then the winter run..

Obviously it depends on where you plan to use it. I have had a Trophy Winter Run. It served its purpose as it was my first centrepin. Since then I upgraded to a Trudex for smaller rivers like your flow and an Islander for everything else.
If you are looking for a small, inexpensive centrepin for small flows i have a Trudex I'm selling. If your interested you can email me at dionjl@gmail.com

Well i juist picked up a used winter run.
The price was very good and it will probably be all i need on the smaller flows.
Also picked up a new Trophy rod to go with it so now i just have to get rid of this cold so i can test them out.
Thanks for the advice folks.
So far from what i can tell, there are some that dont like the reel and some that do.

Just remember clean , lube the spindle and the bushing once in a while before you go out to have fun.
Last, there is a spool adjustment at the center too.

I fish a Okuma Aventa berring reel and its ran flawless for 2 years for me now. I got it from these guys http://www.shiftoutdoors.com/page/SO/CTGY/fish-float (http://www.shiftoutdoors.com/page/SO/CTGY/fish-float) mail order but it was only $139 when I bought it...

What kind of oil does everyone use on there pins?

Pete from freds recomended to me once to blast the oil out of your factory berrings with an air hose and soak them in dura lube. Work wonders
