-
went there afternoon at the dam side with my friend. tried but nothing there.
-
Thanks guys.
-
Can you drive over the dam or do you have to pick which side you drive up to fish?
-
Last year they did seismic up grades to the dam and you had to drive around if you wanted to fish the other side. I hope they are now done.
-
They are done. You can drive across the dam.
-
Buddy of mind was there the other day and saw a few fish, but nothing for him??? With the rain it should bring in more fish....

Havent been out to the Stave for chum this year, but from past years i would say we are still 3 to 4 weeks away. Think 2nd to 3rd week of october
-
This is one system I can not wait to try and fish. I have only fished the squamish.
-
Same here I cant wait, I love the stave!

They have hired 2 CO's with a brand new office right in downtown Maple Ridge ;D
-
If you go to the Stave go early and leave before the morons arrive.. Nicole, the Harper bit is great.
-
That is great news FlyGuy.
I hope they get out and about plenty.
Which reminds me i better get my Salmon tag tomorrow. :o ;D

Last year I took my wife to the Stave River for her first fall salmon fishing experience. We enjoyed the scenery as well as the fishing. The one disappointing part was the unethical way people treat the fish. Sure hope the CO'S can have an influence here as it appeared some people do not have a clue on how to protect this Sport Fishery. I stopped by there on Wednesday,Sept.24 and saw a few fisherman with the flyrods out. No fish on the beach and none to be seen in the spawning channel. Should pick up in the coming week.

I have never fished the Stave , are you talking about the river below the dam ???? If I were to take my 10 year old son would he have any problems getting to the fishing spots ???? What is best to catch a chum besides roe ????
-
there are lots of easy access spots for ten year olds
thats where my family started, stick to the west side
there is lots to explore, yes below the dam.
thats part of the problem there, but with the CO's now in town
i hope they can clean it up.
they have done alot of work there this summer
you can no longer walk all the way around the toilet bowl
with out waders and a good staff.
also removed a bunch of rocks and gravel from the north end
to move people away from the dam itself
best thing to catch chum on besides roe is MORE ROE :D
or some peach or red wool.

Spoon/spinner works too.
-
I've always used wool and have caught chums. Sometimes they seem to prefer the darker greens and chartreuse over the oranges and peaches so try different colours if the standard colours aren't producing.
-
If I where you I would go there and practice ;) Chartreuse is always a good base and add different colors with it for contrast. They are aggressive and will hit. I would also try fishing a jig 2-3 feet below your float. You will be pleasantly surprised how hard they hit them. ;D
-
fished there this afternoon for about an hour, there were a few people fishing but not much action from what we could see
-
I have fly fished the Stave for Chum since 98. The most successful patterns have always been forest green or kelly green. Black on bright sunny days.
-
Saw lots of chum and a few coho when I stopped there on my way home today.
