Fishers and others will be pleased to know, as of 1 today no more tolls on the Coq. highway.
Election goodies starting already.
-
Sounds good, BUT...we'll they maintain the highway properly?
Even with cash pouring in from the toll, the Coq was often neglected to the point of being very dangerous.

You don't need to pick as many tins and bottles on your way to Merrit anymore. ;D

Thats good news, now I can stop asking for a tall latte every time I go though. ::)

Good news, but I'm sure they will not mention this:
http://www.tollroadsnews.com/node/300
The government of British Columbia is looking a sell investors a 55-year toll concession on a 109km (68mi) segment of the Coquihalla Highway. In return for the right to toll and operate roadside businesses the franchisee will maintain, operate, and rehabilitate the highway as needed. No official is on the record about the expected cost of the concession but local press reports have suggested the province is hoping to get about $420m (C$600).
They failed miserably with this...
And I bet they will not mention the fact that there will be three new tolled bridges in the Lower Mainland: Golden Ears, Port Mann, AND the Patullo... Wait for it!
Cheers,
Nicole

Got to love good old Gordo. Give with one hand, and take with the other. ;)

Keep collecting and use the money on BC rivers, such as the slide areas on the Chilliwack river????????

Sweet ... that's $20 I'll save next year going to Merrit. Unless the bandits come up with another reason to get it before then.
It'll be interesting to hear of the road conditions this winter.
