Title: Fresh Water Fishing Regs Effective Apr 1, 09
Post by: Lew Chater on March 15, 2009, 04:06:33 PM
Some interesting changes on some of the Interior Lakes.
Up to this point, many of the trophy type lakes had fishing closures until May 1. Now lakes like Roche, Lundbom etc just say "No Ice Fishing", which means you will now be able to fish them as soon as the ice is off each season. No waiting for May 1.

This is a welcome change, as the reason for the May 1 date was to prevent ice fishing on certain lakes and of course some years the ice was off weeks before May 1. Some years they would open the lake early by announcement.

This year is late with lots of ice so it may not really affect the opening anyway.

A MAJOR CHANGE FOR LOVERS OF TUNKWA AND LEIGHTON LAKES IS THERE WILL BE ICE FISHING ALLOWED.These regs start Apr 1 so will depend how the ice is as to whether you can fish this year after Apr 1.
A half page ad from Tunkwa Lake Resort is on P 37 of the Synopsis advertising "Incredible Ice Fishing. Tunkwa Lake is Now Open Year Round!"

Be interesting to see what that does to the quality of fishing in these two lakes in the years to come!
