I have a question about fishing the river between the cpr rail bridge and the marine drive bridge. Are you allowed to or is it native land? I know on the east side of the river is the saquamish nation reserve, can you fish from the west side of the river?
thanks....any tips for getting down to river by highway one? you can PM me thanks
I'm going out monday first light if anyone is interested in fishing
-
Short answer is No. You are allowed to fish the west side from the CPR bridge down to the mouth.
-
Which is Tidal water, of course...
-
that's disappointing...they should put up some signs or note it in the regs
-
No regs on me right now, but I believe the front page of region 2 in your Freshwater Synopisis indicates tidal boundaries in region 2. Having said that, fishing regs are not easy to follow. I work for transit, & am used to confusing rules!
-
The tidal boundary is at the CN Railway bridge.
-
I am sure east side is native area.
I never see notice or signs on west side trail but there has fence between trail entrance and CPR bridge.
-
to get under hwy 1 bridge, take keith rd. from taylor way. go to the end of keith and follow path down on the right hand side facing the river.to see the river level go to the vancouver kayak club website.

thanks for the reply. but the tidal boundary was not confusing for me. I meant to say they should state in the regs you can't fish that section of river due to native land

thanks for the info. last time i scouted the area I went left and was stumped on how to get down.

The trail is very steep and slippery, so be careful.

due to pouring rain at 4am I opted not to attempt that trail this morning. My felt sole boots don't provide much grip for that

hi
how is fishing there anyways??
isn't it a bit too early for the coho??

these guys are just practicing... ::)

The Cap River has actually been fishing pretty well the past few weeks. Lots of small early coho in there and a few steelhead are still around. Interestingly I thought that the Cap only had hatchery coho but while out fishing with a buddy he nailed 2 wilds. Is this possible? or did he just catch some hatchery fish that had not been properly clipped?

The cap has a wild run of coho as far as I know. The chinook run is not native to that water system from what I recall...white chinook from the Harrison I believe.

a red spring was caught there 2 weeks ago

Unbelievable!!!!! ??? >:( Ive been fishing there regularly for over a month now and I havent seen as much as a tail of a fish.
-
Popped by the cap this morning, the place was a gong show! I have seen stanley cup finals that were less crowded! Fish werent exactly jumping out either.

The hatchery doesnt clip every smolt released, only a portion. That being said im sure there is some natural reproduction even with limited gravel

In the canyon - at one point there were so many rods on the cable pool that people were lining up waiting for someone to leave!
Hopefully wont be so busy for you during the week (although its so close to town I suspect a few people may head there before going to work)
-
Could do with some more water to make good fishing conditions. With a bit of luck the rain will keep up this evening and into the night. The river dropped over a foot this morning in just a couple of hours and fishing was dead.

oh well of course the cable pool is packed...I'm not a fan of that area...I'm going much lower down river
I'm hoping we get some more rain over night

Tons of fish in the cap this weekend. Don't know where you guys were but I was fishing all by myself for the most part all weekend and caught over 10 fish on each day! Until....
Don't teach your kids to be idiots!
I was fishing on a nice stretch of river with a couple of other guys when someone asked me if I had caught any fish. I told the person that the fishing was great. The run we were fishing was huge and there was plenty of room for everyone. This guy then proceeds to set up right next to me. I mean right next to me! Once he has his b.s snagging rig on I remained calm and asked him to move down to where there is space and he told me (in broken English) to ..."go fish somewhere else if I don't like it!" One of the other guys on the river had some choice words with the person and he moved on. The next day I was down river from that spot and the same guy comes up to me with his kid this time. Same story...asks me if the fishing is good and....He speaks in some unknown language to the kid and then sets the kid up right next to me on my right side. He then moves to my left and tangles me up again. Now I have a snagger on both sides of me, shoulder to shoulder, and there is nobody else fishing this huge run! Another tangle some more words and this time I decide it is not worth my time to deal with this guy and leave.
Can you spot the problem here? It is not so much that this old guy is an idiot. I tell the story to illustrate that an idiot with a child is a curse. This guy is teaching his son both bad fishing ethics and bad manners! When fish bite so readily why do people fish with bare hooks? and why teach your son how to be an a**hole on the river by posting up right next to other people trying to enjoy a day out on the flow!
My two cents
-
I've never fished the Cap before so yesterday I decided to do some explorations. Parked my car at a small parking lot and then walked into the woods. I did manage to see the river up top but got lost soon after when I was trying to find my way down. Yes, I am pretty bad with directions.
Anyone able to help me out? Thanks in advance

that's brutal...passing on bad traits to a new generation. There's no excuse or reason to post up right next to someone when there's plenty of room on a run...it's called being polite. I went to a spot this morning, saw 2 other guys fishing the run, I stayed above them and gave them plenty of room.
Heading out again tomorrow morning...headed out a bit late today. Anyone else heading out?[

Vancook, I want to go out but I don't know Cap at all. Do you mind me join?

Victor...is that you from the Strugeon Dock in Richmond?!? Like Victor, Michael and Chris? If so get my number from Michael and give me a call. I saw Chris there yesterday but the fishing was slow until around 1pm. By that time he had already left the river and I was just starting to nail the silver beauties. I want to go out there today but my car is now in the shop. I can show you where to go even when there is no water to still catch fish in the cap.

Vic....just noticed that my number is on the bottom of my posts. Call me...its Los.

always up for new fishing mates....I'll be honest though, fishing the cap is new for me as well so I'm no expert on where to go.

Hi slick vic
I had the kind of situation this weeked.
I went all the way down to Keith Road parking place (by the highway bridge) and ended up the same way like you and just left.
I wonder if someone give us some tips and like to help here.

Let's do some bushwacking together next time then. ;D

Hi
the side opposite to Capilano Road, on the side of Keith Road, off of Taylor Way.
copy and paste the following on the search box of Google Map and you will see it: Klee Wyck Park/Westvan, British Columbia
I parked on the end of Keith Road on that side.
Thanks.

how do you enter from the capilano road side? Doesnt seem to be much parking around
-
hey...what happened to that great post about not putting maps and directions to spots? That was a great piece!
Honestly....why would you go and post up a map of how to get to one of the few spots on any river? I vote that we change the rules to state that "directions and maps to specific fishing locations are not to be posted or made public."
Go out there and do some exploring! You might find it a bit more rewarding when a fish smashes your hook in a spot that you found by tapping into your inner adventurer!

That's very typical of today's self centered society. Don't help others. I don't see a problem with letting someone know where to park, its a parking spot... not a fishing spot. I appreciate it when someone shares a location in which i can access the river. I'm more than happy to explore the RIVER by myself, but i hate searching for parking in an area i don't know. It's such a waste of time and gas, time that could be better spent fishing or looking for a place on the river to fish.
On another note, is the river walkable from the Ambleside parking lot near the mouth? I've always thought that might be a good place to start and then walk up stream.
-
I have taken many a fisherman with me to my various fishing holes and am always willing to help people out.
I am all for helping others. That is what email and phones are for. I don't think it is helpful to anyone to post up a spot for millions of people on the internet to see. All that does is make it so that the next time you go to your favorite spot 20 people will already be there. Seriously the river is only 5km long so you won't be wasting much time or gas looking for spots. Pick up a map at the hatchery and go exploring. All the parking spots are posted on there.
-

Just down from the Chevron is a pull over area. If that's loaded you may have to drive a bit and park on a side street. A little rough getting down, but there's some fishy spots there.

I think we are misunderstanding each other here. I believe there is a difference between telling someone about a place to park and a place to fish. I agree that it's not always the best idea to tell someone of a FISHING location, but whats the harm in letting them know where there is a place they can park there car. It has nothing to do with showing them a good fishing spot, unless of course you fish from the parking lot.. ;)
-
which is directly above the location on which he's implying that someone fishes! ::)
-
Funeral Of Hearts which pool do you like fishing for these blue backs?
and where is the closes parking spot is to this spot?
Thanks for the help, from a new fishermen! ;D ;D
-
gotcha....
but as we know many road names are also the names of runs on rivers for a reason. IE: L___man Pool - L___man Road (Chilliwack/Vedder). Just tell someone L___man and the spot is blown
-
You guys are talking about the capilano river, a river that has been fished HARD for longer than most of you have been alive ::)
All you're doing by telling somebody where to park is saving them the time and energy they will invariably use up finding it anyways.
"Secret parking lots of the capilano" .... I love it :D
-
I know what you mean by telling someone to park somewhere right next to the "good spot" but honestly, are there any "good spots" on any local rivers that are near any parking and accessible that are not know to anyone and everyone who wants to know about them? I'd have to agree with marmot and have a giggle at the "secret spot" mentality.
Ivan, if i fished the river I would tell you where i park. I have only ever fished the mouth and parked at ambleside park. Although i might give it a try this year.

anyone been to the cap recently?how has it been?
-
I see some sort of over reaction and a type of "my river only for myself" kind of mentality.
Someone is parking in a wrong place for an already known to all spot and river, and asking for advice,...and, here, ...there we go ...
Great, if you don't want to help that is ok but you can't stand others on the way.

I don't quite understand what you are saying? Tough grammar....
It would seem that you have not fished the Vedder river in the fall! Just wait and see....you will begin to understand when you are trying to fish in the midst of 100's of anglers.
This is not about a "my river myself mentality"....don't make assumptions buddy. Trust me on this one. Your first combat fishing experience will blow your mind.

Ok
sorry for that tough grammar
yes, I have seen Vedder enough to know what you mean
no hard feeling
but all I was asking here was how to get access to a spot that many others have already mentioned it here before many times.
why there are articles here in the same website about how to get to a lake and what are the best method to fish there??
to my understanding I didn't ask more than that type of information. .
I hope you understand what I mean here.
we of course don't want to close this website because it is publishing about the fishing locations and how to get there and what are the best methods of fishing for a given location.

Yes,
I see many people are getting interested in fishing which is great
of course, there are always black sheep here and there and there are always new ones who even if not wanted doing mistakes
so, what is the solution
how can we promote fishing as one of the best assets of our province the best??
by keeping everything secrete and not telling to anyone anything as much as possible??
I don't thinks so.

azafai, others don't necessarily have a problem with sharing specific locations with others, it is how it is shared. Personally if I feel interested to share exactly where to park and walk to, regardless how easy the access already is, I would do it by email or private messaging so the other thousands visitors to the website would not all read it at once. River access is limited and most do not wish to bring attention to one particular spot, which may lead to a rush of users in a short period of time. The intention maybe good, the impact may actually be a drop in the quality of fishing experience at that location. I'm not telling you how you should share your information (if I were, I'd be deleting a bunch of posts right now ;) ) but it is something to consider.

slow fishing on the lower end of the river this morning...water looked much lower than a few days ago. stopped by the cable pool to take a look before heading home. few people out there...lots of lock jaw fish, few caught on the fly apparently up there
LOL- I've spent many an hour working that water when the lock jaw hits. One year there was a big steelie in the mix. I saw it caught twice and no cohos. Grab your fly rod and running shoes and head in to the upper reaches of the Seymour.....It might be a tad early, but I've surprised myself with a bit of shoe work. Wear a bear bell too ;)
