its fishable now seems to be dropping fairly quickly as well

I doubt it will have dropped significantly by the weekend, but the river's been fishable for a while now.  The river's very high but the visibility is good (relative to how it typically is during rain induced flows).

I did a bit of scouting last Saturday and only managed a small jack for my 5 hours of fishing.  Finding red springs hasn't been easy the past few years (at least not for myself).  Just be sure to move around a lot and look for water you might typically fish during lower flows.

Is anyone wearing waders this time of year, or is it wet wading?

waders arent needed in the vedder. i've spent around 10 hours in the water (at times up to waist) over the past 2 days its not bad at all

i enjoy being dry. I just roll them down to the wading belt so they sit at your waist.

Waders arnt needed, but theres no way your going to be standing in the water for more then a couple minutes, never mind waist deep.

Sounds like a split decision. I'll take waders and roll them down.  ;D
Thanks.

I wet wade until mid September and sometimes even later into the year in the Vedder. I actually made it into late October one year because we had a gorgeous indian summer  ;D not to mention that fishing was stellar that year

I was crossing some side channels up by the hatchery on one of the first nice days of July, must had been 25+ degrees that day. It was just numbing cold, didnt take long to loose feeling in the legs, I couldnt see how anyone could just stand knee deep in it for some time. Maybe I am a wimp...

id rather wear waders but if it is hot enough i wouldnt mind wearing just some shorts and some surf shoes or something...maybe even just some sandals...

I go shorts and sandals and Bigfisher you get used to it. If im standing in the water for a long time then yes my ankles and/or knees get pretty cold but never numb  :-\ I do find the ankles get uncomfortable when they are thawing out though LOL

standing in cold water for long periods of time be it durable or not is not good for the joints. something to consider. :)

I swam across the river last October.....decided it was better to go for a swim than to waste 2 hours hiking.

On a Vedder related note....where abouts on the river are the slower waters/pools? I was there today but most of the "pools" (i.e. Tamahi etc.) are still pretty fast moving water. Is there an area where you can get some deep slow pools, or does that just naturally happen once the water level drops more?

Thanks for your help :)

Probably to show people fishing the vedder in shorts in October.

Being comfortable is all that counts. If you find it cold wear waders, otherwise dont.

Yeah you re right about those skeeterz Weatherby, they were out in full effect.  I started from the train bridge and worked my way up to the peach area and nothing.  Didn't see or hear anything about fish being caught either.  Maybe next week.

i started at vedder crossing bridge and worked my way to peach. skeeters werent bad to start but as soon as we went passed peach parking lot they started coming in clouds, had no choice but to turn back and go work the last spot "even harder" soon as we got passed the parking lot they took off tho. thankfully. packing bug spray the next time for sure

Was up checking out the vedder just before limit hole--5-6 people fishing.  Watched for 10 mins and saw only one sockeye landed and released.

Was just fly fishing the vedder for trout just past the railway bridge and talked to some guys who were there for a couple hours searching for that elusive salmon but were out of luck. I landed 3 decent trout averaging 10 inches tho :)
