We took the grandson of a good family friend out for a few hours of fishing at No. 2 Road Pier in Steveston (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/no_2_road_pier.html) on Thursday afternoon. He came to this year's Fish for the Future (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fftf) but didn't manage to hook a fish, so it was only fair that he got a second chance. ;D
The Tidal Fraser River (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/no_2_road_pier.html) didn't disappoint him this time. We started the day with a chunky northern pikeminnow (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fish_profile/northern_pikeminnow.html).

It took him awhile to get used to watching the float but he got a hang of it. In total, around 10 fish were brought to the floating dock, most of them were like this peamouth chub (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fish_profile/peamouth_chub.html).

After his parents picked him up at the end, Nina and I spent another 20 minutes or so fishing and it only got better. The fishing is always good whenever an incoming tide coincides with the evening hours. We hauled in many more minnows, on almost every cast until Nina couldn't handle her sunburn anymore. :-\
Water clarity is getting better and better each day. It's over a foot of visibility now. We've tried a bit of lure spincasting for cutthroat trout and northern pikeminnow (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/2009/0209_01.html) lately but had no success. Give it a couple more weeks and this fishery should improve.
