After the Senior games wrapped up yesterday I went down to the fishing pier in Campbell River. Near dark the herring came in and those fishing for them were doing quite well with as many a 3 on at a time. Shot some video of the action which I will post later this week, on my return home.
Will be visting Haig Brown House later today.

is this the little campbell by peace arch?

No this is Campbell River over on the island and I believe these herrings were actually caught out of the ocean. You can start trying for coho in the little campbell on october 1st though.

Many years ago ; Tom Moss took me out salmon fishing and he said ; we need some bait. How about we catch some. I thought ; wow in this big ocean we can find some bait and catch it ? What kind of net would we need ? He uses his small spin cast rod like those guys on the CR dock and shows me the tiny sharp winged hooks made for catching bait ( I can only think other fishermen in other countries can also catch small bait fish with these hooks ). After a few attempts he locates a school of herrings and bam. We catch a lot of herring. I was impressed. These herring were maybe 8 inches long and chunky . This was early July in Kingcombe inlet at a Fishing lodge.
After that the springs were following Toms cut plugs, and biting those super fresh herrings. I highly recommend this.

i find that little scud hooks work extremely well for these small fish
