Title: Alternatives to Yosh's smokehouse?
Post by: andrew5 on September 30, 2010, 03:35:28 PM
Hi guys,

I read on here that there ws a 2 month wait list for smoking salmon at Yosh's in N. Van. This is crazy! are there any alternatives in the lower mainland? I wantt so smoke my sockeye for christmas gifts for the family, but certainly don't want to wait 2 months.

Thanks,

Andrew

There is a couple of places in Maple Ridge if you're willing to travel.  Bruces' Market is one (lougheed and 240 street) - although I have heard some speculative concerns that you may not get the fish you brought it as the final product).  The other that I had good success with was Ocean Master Foods on River Road.

Andrew, I would smoke it yourself . once you have a smoker its not too bad. the dry brine is relatively cheap and you can have it smoked in 5-6 hrs.  You might be able to pick up a cheaper smoker on craigslist or buynsell if you don't wish to fork out for a new one.

If you haven't already read it, here's a another thread to read;
