I've been using okuma brand reels and have been quite happy. I used the stinsten for springs all last year and this year and also in the salt... It even sat in salt water for a good period.

Considered a small levelwind?  I never liked the way spinning reels performed so I bought a bass-sized levelwind.  It casts lightweight lures as well a spinning reel, yet its a more robust package and no line-twist.

what is the biggest size fish you think you would be going after I agree on the Shimano but you will also need to consider what size as well as the series Shimano makes a lot of different models.

My Record can cast a 1/8 oz spoon maybe 50' when spooled with 12lbs line and matched to an 10'6" HMX, just as well as my friends spinning rod.  Gotta match the rod with a light rod to cast light lures far.

50' is a lot, shall do a lot more on braid, what kind of small level wind you would recomment. I know they make a shimano 50, that a sweet looking little reel.

Sorry, I should have clarified, the Record is a round levelwind reel made by Abu Garcia.  Its smoother than a C4 and quite adept at casting light lures and its my go-to coho reel.  http://www.abugarcia.com/prod.php?k=132608&sk=132487&p=PURRCN40%20(1115467)

I would definitely take a Shimano Curado baitcaster over any spinning reel for the application you need it for.  They have been around a long time and are tough as nails.  I have some that are over 10 yrs old and still work like new. Maintenance is a breeze as well. Depending on your skill with a baitcaster you should be able to cast a 1/8 oz jig 200 ft no problem. The rod you match it with has alot to do with your distance as well. For about 50 or 60 bucks more you can get a Shimano Chronarch. Now that is a really sweet piece of kit.
