Does anyone know if the full moon affects fishing in a negative way? The reason I ask is because over the last couple days the fishing has slowed drastically for steelers on the flow I have been fishing over the last few days, and was wondering if maybe it has something to do with the full moon?

full moon is better for fishing. Especially when you are fishing tidally influenced water like the canal. Look at the tides during a full moon, they are highest during a full moon

Full moons are the best! They let me fish all night long. :)

I've heard of people doing quite well in the last couple days. Its been my observation that fishing is generally better around a full moon.
-
As a general rule fishing is poor on the full moon, with fish night feeding more aggressively for ten up to a full moon. By the time the moon is full most fish are stuffed to the point of being off their food. This also works in reverse after the full moon, with the best day being the fifth day before and after a full moon. However when skies are over cast in that ten day period fishing can be quite good on a full moon.
When ever I plan a fishing trip, the first thing I do is check the calendar for a full moon so I don't get stuck fishing on those days.

--"as a general rule" the fish full of feed... but of course the best day/night fishing I've ever had was summer full moon, night hatch on Lac La Jeune and the big guys feeding on the surface without fear of predators. Used bi-visible fly.... white face black bottom.. non stop action until search party was sent out for us thinking we had engine problems.

Might I ask, were the skies clear each night for the ten days up to that full moon?
-
What does the amount of cloud cover affect?
-
As the moon moves into full, the increased light causes fish to feed more actively at night. One because they can see better and to because of the reduced threat of predators. If the sky is over-cast there is no increase in light.

I don't think the original poster was talking about lake fishing
-
We use to fish low tides on the Fraser, sometimes early morning. I stopped fishing full moon nights because we never got a bite on those nights.
-
At one time I thought this only applied to lakes; until one of my students showed me proof that it applies to streams as well.
-
interesting, just never heard it before

current issue of BC Outdoors has some views by Brian Chan and Phil Rowley in the Bird's Nest section pg 6... I won't plagiarize it for you... buy a copy or borrow a friends.. maybe try the dentist office if you don't have a subscription.
--I'll just add that dangerous weather conditions would be the only thing to keep me from fishing on any day not lack of catching.

I think there is a lot of truth to fish feeding at night instead of day during a full moon in some cases. An example of such a case would be summer, clear night skies when trout are feeding on larger food items such as during a June/July sedge hatch.
In rivers, I think anadromous fish move during a full moon.

Thanks for the info guys!!! From what I can deduce from the posts, it seems that perhaps the moon affects fish in different locales in different ways, seems as though it puts off fish on the feed, but may spur anadromous/migratory fish to move with the big tides associated with the full moon.
