Anyone tried out the new Simms Alumabite boot studs?
I am wondering how they compare to Hardbite studs as I need to buy some new studs for my G4 boots.

As someone always curious of new things, I bought a pack of Alumabite star studs and tried them on my boots.
Compared to the carbide tipped star cleats which use extra hard tipped points to bite into rock to get grip, this thing takes a novel reverse approach. It uses aluminum as stud material, which lets hard rock to bite into the soft aluminum and get traction. I have used it for a few trips in combination with star cleats, and so far it seems to work well. I can visibly see the soft aluminum wear away, as expected, but will have to use it a while to see how durable they are as the aluminum is quite thick.

I always wonder about the "hard bites" as a hard on hard does little... But hard on soft will bite...
As far as wear, goes with the territory, but better than slipping.
