Title: Thompson River, August 20th & 21st 2011
Post by: BCfisherman97 on August 21, 2011, 09:01:35 PM
Fishing was good. Hooked into a tonne of adults. Dad hooked 3 jacks and landed 2. I hooked 2 but they both came off. Not very many jacks yet, mostly adults. Going back in about 2-3 weeks. After I get back from the Columbia. Nice fishing with Chris and Slick Vic.

Cheers

Float fishing with roe, just like what you'd do on the Vedder, except with heavier float as the current is stronger.

Just roe and you could add wool along with it. I have gotten them on blades too. I got a few pics, but only one of a fish, rest is scenery. Chris took some pics of us fishing with some 15 ish pounders and a nice video, they should be up when he gets back.

Actually as of August.22(yesterday) until Sept.18 you can retain one over 50cm in the new Five locations they added last year just look in the Freshwater Region 3 part of your Salmon Synopsis.

Lytton Tragedy
RCMP say an Abbotsford man is believed to have drowned in the Thompson River.
Last Updated: Sunday, August 21st, 2011 | 5:33pm PDT Story by: Sandy Hall

A 41 year old man from Abbotsford is believed to have drowned in the Thompson River north of Lytton.

RCMP Constable Annie Linteau says the man was swimming with friends near the Gold Pan campsite on Saturday afternoon.

She says the man attempted to swim out to a rock without wearing a life-jacket and it appears that he was swept away by the current.

Linteau says police, search and rescue as well as air four were all called in to search for the man but so far he hasn't been found. She says it's unclear if the search will be continued.

Abby man presumed drowned
Full-scale search abandoned on Thompson River
By Rochelle Baker, The TimesAugust 23, 2011
RCMP are scaling back the search for an Abbotsford man swept away while swimming in the Thompson River Saturday.

He's now presumed drowned.

Lytton RCMP received a report just prior to 3 p.m. that a man was overtaken by the current in Thompson River near Goldpan Provincial Park, 27 kilometres northeast of Lytton, said RCMP Cpl. Annie Linteau. The 41-yearold victim was swimming with friends and reportedly attempted to swim out to a rock when he got swept away.

His friends were unable to pull him from the water.

The man was not wearing a personal floatation device and has not been seen since the incident. Lytton RCMP, members of a nearby search and rescue team, and a police helicopter conducted a thorough search of the area Saturday and Sunday but were unable to locate the man.

A full-scale search was abandoned on Monday, but the RCMP helicopter will conduct flyovers in the area over the next few days.

"Unfortunately, he is presumed drowned," she said, adding RCMP have recently attended a number of tragic incidents connected to recreational water activities.

A Mission teenager was killed Aug. 16 after being struck by a boat while tubing at night on Osoyoos Lake.

"There have been many incidents of people being injured or killed in waterrelated activities," said Linteau. "People need to be aware of their limitations and take safety precautions, and really be careful while out on the water."
