Do I need another freshwater fishing license to fish Salmon arm (Area 3) when I got my license here at home (Area 2)
I cant see anything on my paper that mentions regions specific, and now that I look, I cant see anything on the Ministry website. I could have sworn I read that I needed a license per region. But it could simply be that because the province is split up in regions, I came up with that story in my noggin!

Your freshwater fishing licence is not regional-specific, it can be used across the entire province.
The only exception is classified waters, where additional classified water licences are required.

Ok thank you. I'm not sure where I got it in my head that it was, but I was sure it was. I'm silly! I'll read up real good on r3's regs and such.

National Parks are a diff license... In case you drop a lure along the way.

Ok well I have another, possibly silly question, and I thought Id just post here rather than make a new thread. If youve seen me post around here at all, you know Im pretty new to fishing in general. The pink run was great fun! I caught a bunch of those, and before that a few rainbow trout. Now where Ive been fishing has been clearly public property. The fraser, and stocked lakes. My lady and I are heading up salmon arm tomrrow for a few days, and I want to find some local rivers/streams to practice my fly fishing on. But, how do you know if you are "allowed" to fish a certain water? Do you simply assume you can if there are no signs stating no fishing/private property or something like that? I have no problems finding my own spots and water, but I dont want to take the risk of getting a fine or shot at or something. Say you came across a piece of stream, how would YOU conclude if you can fish it or not? Do it and see if anyone yells at ya?

if youre unsure then dont fish it, err on the side of caution as u may end up fishing a closed or no fishing area, get a backroad mapbook and then u will likely be able to find the name and then look up the regs for the spot, also ask around locally, and find a fly shop or tackle store locally, im on the island and dont get over to the interior much so cant really tell ya any spots, ive been to salmon arm a few times but not for fishing, good luck, thats the best advice i can give ya, ya cant beat local knowledge.....holmes*

btw, i usually go by the rule that its easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission, BUT NEVER when it comes to fishing ;) ;).....holmes*
also, google is your friend

try white lake maybe, just googled it....holmes*

Haha good advice! I cant seem to find any local tackle shops up there online, but I will keep my eyes peeled once up there. A mapbook is a damn fine idea, and I dont know why I havent gotten one yet! I looked at a couple at wholesale sports a month or two back, but never grabbed it. And I have been on Google Earth+Region 3 Regs, and Ive found at least one or two spots to try out. Doesnt look like there is A LOT for wading fishin. But you can bet your my friend if I see someone with a rod in their hands, I am screeching to a hault and introducing myself!

If you have a boat I can recommend white lake. Shore fishing is limited. Or an evening cast anywhere along sunnybrae rd in the shuswap usually produces. Daytime shuswap usually involves downriggers and depth sounders. Lots of local info at http://www.reelfishingadventures.net/shuswap_lake_reports.html
The area is full of great fishing. Good luck

Arm yourself with backroads mapbooks for wherever you're headed so you know what river you're fishing and a copy of the regs to check if you are allowed to fish it. It's as foolproof as it gets.
I've had mixed success relying on "local knowledge". I've found that sometimes the locals will give a little too much weight to their own experience... The whole "I've fished there for 30 years" thing... In other words, it can be valuable information but take it with a grain of salt.

soooooooooooo how did it go??????????????????????.........holmes*

Hahahah did not go out this morning. We are actually in Blind Bay, which isnt TOO far away. But we didnt manage to get in until about 11, and then didnt get to bed until 2. My girlfriends grandfather and I got into fishing stories, and he wouldnt stop feeding me beer and laughs. We are doing family crap today, gonna go check out Adams River or something, apparently its a salmon spawning ground. So I shall scout, possibly fish later, and then be up before the sun tomororw!
-
Just got back. Headed out to the lower Adams River. Absolutely gorgeous! Gonna find a calm spot to wade in and toss a line in the morning. Might hit up the Little River between the lakes. Either way. Gorgeous gorgeous water. Quite a few sockeye in the park too! No where near 2010's run, but I was seeing at least 10 at every stop along the trails in there. Great looking water here, and absolutely shocked at it compared to the waters down home. Planning on being up first thing and out the house real quick. It was extremely hard to hang out with the family and not even whip out the rod. SO HARD!

Haha I saw that!
There were lots of Sockeye around me. After wading in, a few minute later they got quite close to me. Was really nice. No fish, but I came across a husband and wife team flying, they said they hadnt had much luck, other than the single rainbow I saw the missus bring in while I was tying up my fly. Looked only to be 12-14 inches, but I was also quite a ways away on shore. But was a great trip overall. Almost died at least once. Possibly twice, but the second stumble I had I was in less than knee deep water. So it could have hurt, but may not have been deadly. Pretty good for my first wading experience! found a nice 4 foot strong thick branch to use a wading staff. That helped for the first hip wade. Learned, DONT FACE THE CURRENT! Keep your side to it. I knew that already, but now its really stuck. Went to turn and it hit me and I had to dig into some rocks. Was scary! No fishies for me though, and not even close to a bite. Working on my casting. Ended up laying out quite a few really good casts. leader turned over quite nicely and everything just worked. Excited to find a river like that close to home now!
