Title: Staver River (at Ruskin dam) flows
Post by: fishman254 on November 01, 2013, 09:23:59 AM
Can find where I can get the Stave River at Ruskin Dam flows. Help! I'll be anchoring below the dam and that info would be real helpful.

There's no map if that's what you are looking for.

It is a relatively difficult river to navigate once you get into the upper part of the river (past the bottom island).

You should have a fishfinder to show your depth and it would be advisable to have a spotter in the front of the boat pointing you to deeper water as you move up.

After you pass under the bridge, stay to the east side of the river until you get near the pilings.
Sort of stay close to (& south of) the pilings as you move up the river.
At some point, you will need to go on the north side of the pilings otherwise you will get pushed into shallow water.

There is a very shallow spot near the top of the first island that can be impassable depending on the tide.

Speaking of tides, you have to pay careful attention to the tides and try to time your movements with high tides.

Using Google Maps or Google Earth will help you figure out where to go.

Good info, Easy.
Is there some place (online or phone call) where I can, like the Harrison/Fraser, see the FLOWS or river HEIGHT (cubic meters/second, or discharge)?

I would guess probably not because flow is controlled by bc hydro, all depends on how much they let past the dam. And with construction they are keeping flows low I think

Stay to the right as you round the corner
Hug the shore as you move past the pilings - green line - 6 to 8 feet deep depending on the tide
Red arrow shows where you transition from s/e of the pilings to n/w of the pilings
Red square shows the main shallow spot - 2 to 3 feet deep
If you can get above that, you are in the hot zone
Toilet bowl is just off the top of the pic

There's usually a fair amount of charter boat traffic - follow them but keep in mind they are probably jets.

Nice map, Easy!!
That's super helpful.
"Hot zone", by that do you mean the best fishing, or what?
Thanks!
