Title: Lake Ontario Fishing Trip
Post by: Mkulak on July 12, 2014, 06:18:51 PM
I'm originally from Toronto and have lived in Vancouver for the past 2 1/2 years.  Just last weekend I was fishing off the cap and lost the Coho I hooked into as I left my net at home (Doh)  While I wanted to go back out fishing this weekend I had to be in Toronto to the facilitate a course for work.

My father is an avid fisherman so I knew he would be game to take out his boat on Lake Ontario to see if we could catch some Rainbow, Lake Trout or Chinook.  Long story short I did not think my first Chinook Salmon would be caught in Lake Ontario vs the Pacific Ocean.

I decided to bring out a good chunk of the tackle I purchased in BC (Flashers, Hoochies and Lures) to see how it work in Ontario.
Well I'd call it a success since everything I brought hooked into either a Chinook or Rainbow Trout.

Smooth as silk on Lake Ontario.  You will see Toronto in the background.

First Chinook for me!  13.5lbs and 33 inches from head to tail.

I was texting Jason at Pacific Angler telling him about the success and that I was using tackle he recommended and next thing I knew I had another hit and another Chinook just a tad smaller.

Great day...   Fly back on July 17th and look forward to fishing West Vancouver on the 18th.  (With my net this time as it now stays in my boat).

Hope you appreciate the pics from the other side of Canada.....

Very nice! Let's hope those Asian carp stay south of Chicago.

I grew up in St. Catharines in the 80's/90's and it was GROSS fishing in that lake.  You were luck to catch a carp or an eel pretty much, and NO WAY would you eat it *BARF*

The ol saying in Ontario (Stelco Steel, etc) "the solution to pollution is dilution"...and into Lake Ontario it went!!

Did you keep them long enough to open them up?  Are they still full of tumors and cysts?

I don't mean to be rude, cause those are awesome looking salmon! I hope the lake has started to clean up as I am sure there is better enforcement now.

I got a trout out of there with only one eye. Seriously, one eye!
Never seen that before. Don't eat anything from that lake.

I was in Alliston, Barrie then North York as a young chef for a while and would fish steelies in small creeks that you'd think were barren. They weren't ocean-run however, a lot of fun as I recall... And perfectly healthy. Wasaga beach and the nightclubs of Newmarket and Toronto were fun, too. Lol good old '80's. Where secrets stay. (And hopefully mullets)
