Title: Boat Launch for Vedder River?
Post by: Humpy on September 04, 2015, 01:07:02 PM
I am planning on taking the boat out to the vedder mouth area soon to try for pink salmon.
I have done some research and found that the Dewdney Slough boat launch and barrowtown pump station are two options.
Does anybody have any more options? I am leaning towards the Dewdney Slough boat launch as I think it may be safer for the truck.

There's cattermole launch in behind Ritchie bros and island 22. You have to pay to launch at island 22 $10 I think.

The Wilson launch on Old Orchard road is also free, but I think the $10 bucks ($50 for season pass) at the Dewdney launch is worth having the security for your truck and/or trailer.

Incidentally, the season passes are good for both Dewdney and Island 22.

Are ya running pump or prop

Dewdney launch to Vedder mouth is kinda sketchy if ya pick a wrong route in low tide, a pump is alot better for running shallow in unfamiliar waters

good luck

Be ready to see about 20 boats at the Sumas/Vedder mouth........guaranteed beaks ville, been there 3 weak in a row and the numbers of boats ramp up now that the coho are present

May I suggest the tidal Fraser my Delta brahda humpies showing in large numbers, scouted a bar up from Alex Fraser and the 6 fisherman, saw 8 landed in 20mins with a handful long line released

The tidal fraser is actually closer and I wouldn't mind fishing there but I am not very familiar with the area and fishing spots.
Now that the non-tidal fraser is open, I may go there and find a less crowded bar.

no need to find a bar just look for the surface action. Bridgeview marine
would be the closest launch to us in Delta

Pm if your interested will head out tomorrow, I can assist with some knowledge

Cheers

Do not come down this way, unless you have a jet and some bawls.

You can launch at Barrow Town, just take it easy.

What are you talking about I do it all the time in my 12' with a 9.9.
Why does everyone think you need a jet to get around on the Fraser?

Well having run into trouble with a prop in that stretch last summer, leads me to warn others. This year there's less water as well, so I'm just looking out for others. But thanks for proving you CAN do it, well done. :)

As far a Island 22 goes....

Does anyone know if I were to buy a season's pass tomorrow (6th), is it good for 1 year from the date of purchase? If it's only good until the end of 2015 I'm not sure if I want to buy the pass.

We are taking our recently purchased jet boat out on the Fraser for the 1st time tmrw! :D Have had it out on lakes 5 times and am now reasonably comfortable loading and unloading, cruising around, dropping anchor, and so on.

I am aware of some free launches (Jesperson, BarrowTown, etc) but am considering just using I-22 every time.

It is the closest launch to where I live and I like that it is a secure area and some scrot-bag isn't gointg to break into my truck and steal my stuff.

Plus with the amount of space there is just seems like a generally less stressful place to load and launch.

I've been out with buddies in their boats launching from Barrowtown or Jesperson and others and it was a gong show of people waiting to launch, taking too much time and getting razzed by people waiting, etc.
