Title: Hick's Lake - July 9th

Just back from vacation in the UK (only one flounder and one cod caught while I was there :-[ ) so I decided to head out to Hicks to give it a last try before the fall and the return of cooler weather.

I arrived around 8:30 and fished until 2pm with 3 cutthroats to show for my efforts, a small one, one mid-sized and one larger - probably around 14 in (that put up a good fight).

Each was caught trolling a different fly and each on a different grade sinking  line but all were taken in less than 15 ft of water around the inflow on the SE side.

nice fish!!!!!  beautiful speckle pattern on the trout.

how deep is hicks lake, ive heard rumors it can get windy up there so ive never ventured in the canoe.

At the deepest point it's about 160 ft but there's a lot of shoal areas around the north end that ranges between 6 ft and 20 ft. and that's about 1/3 of the lake. In the spring and fall, that's generally where the bulk of the fish seem to be.

I've never found the wind a big problem and I have an 11ft inflatable - true it does drift a fair bit if I don't anchor but generally I'm trolling (as is anyone else I see in a boat up here). They also rent out canoes on the lake so I'm sure you'd have no problems.
