My dad and his friends went to the Vedder today...my dad caught 1 spring along with 1 sockeye. The spring was about an 17 pounder, and was in very good condition.
-
He was fishing at Lickman road. He said that many fish were landed there today..ALOT of sockeyes :o no surprise..and he caught it on pink wool. :)
-
In the deep pool? up the trail a bit by the bench?
-
Yeah he caught them in the deeper water. Sorry Doc i dont have a pic or anything. But the color was very light...i hope that helps..if not, i will get all the info sooner than later.
-
The Lickman gong hole. :( And just to think last week you told me it wasnt early and to go look for good fish water. What would I rather do, fish with the gongers and 6-12 foot leaders with a bouncing betty under a float or go fish water on my own and not be disugusted with the ripping of floats on the surface and snagging of sockeyes. Heard river is being shut down next week, Im sure happy and it look slike it may be true cuz DFO is out patrolling. :)
-
I like to the lower part of lickman. Because It's easier to land fish there too, also you got a long rocky beach there.
-
Yes trout slayer, the gong hole :-\ , was there with carlo and aaron checking it out and very disgusted in the way the people where fishing , Targiting the sockeye with there 6-9ft leader and bouncing betty's and you not even alloued to target them, also happy that they are thinking of shutting it down, cause of the sockeye
-
You must be a damn good fisherman with that many bites. ;D
-
Yeah, I hate that ripping sound. Those guys set the hook after every drift. That's not the right way to fish. And fishing this way you hook more fish in the body than in the mouth. Just let your float drift down and once it goes under set the hook.
-
And I thought I was good :P , thanks for the expert opinion robert
-
thanxs for the report spring_Killer why dident you go with your dad????
-
Wool colour doesn't really matter. I've seen guys catch springs on orange, pink, red, red and white, cotton candy colour, peach, and many more colours and combinations. It's more personal preference. If someone is confident in using a certain colour, they'll catch fish. But if you're usure of yourself or your technique you'll get skunked. The key is confidence.
-
spring arent pickie, if you get it infront of there face theyll take it, Even if you choose to floss them :P :P
-
hey robert set the hook like me and u yesterday eh? lol 8)
-
Doc SG is trying to mock you asking questions about the wool colour if you haven't noticed ::)
-
i agree. i would pay top dollar for a guided trip with spring killer, ivan, and robert. i mean you just cant go wrong with these three experts, and to think of all the wonderful experience they have with all the different types of fishing, and the keys to help unlock sucess. just remember folks, the key is confidence.

reebs build confidence..........so what shade of pink??? kind of a peachy pink or a piglet pink????
-
otto your on the right track but i would go with more of a bubble gum pink, i mean you cant go wrong. even the experts would back me up on this one, right boys?
-
allright BubbleGum pink!!! now here is food for thought.....if the fishies are biting at "pink" wool, will they bite at a "pink" 3" grub (the ones with the twister tails)..... ??? seems to me that could be some fun/productive fishing, using a twister tail grub and a 1/2 oz jig head hook with no barb......
anybody......

i find it funny how what they say contradicts each other. as seen here, "Bottom bouncers should just use bare hooks. They just put a bit of wool on their hook to make it look like their not snagging the fish in the mouth. But those guys are mistaken because us guys that know what their doing aren't fooled. Those people who actually think that a spring will turn around in fast water to chase a bit of wool are in denial." and can also be seen here, "I know that springs wont take wool when you're bottom bouncing or float fishing in the vedder or fraser. "
to weird how opinions can change at the drop of a hat.

TTS, that ripping sound you hear is also referred to as "The Milkshake". ;D Usually happens when u fish 12' from float to weight in 5' of water and you violently set the hook on every "tick".
My first time on Vedder last weekend. I saw a guy doing this, and now I know what he was doing.
I feel totally sad and disgusted. There must be better ways to fill the freezer. If any of the guys on the forum does this, PLEASE STOP!! >:( >:( If not, gently let others know about your feeling about this.

ok i'll throw in another piece of wood on the fire..........i have used bits of wool under a float, with tiny hooks, on stillwater lakes and sloughs for trout. it just hangs there and i get a large number of fish.....i think because the current moves the wool ever so slightly and it sways in the water, maybe looks like a worm..?????????....
more food for thought.......

_Ivan_, i didnt go because i am grounded for the month( ONLY for fishing though). But i am not too disappointed that i didnt go because from late august to late december, i will be catching coho, springs, sockeyes and chum. ;D ;D. But i am the spring killer which changes everything

I don't have any problem with the above. I observed my friend fish this way on Vedder (I am a fly fisher...), and he was hooking fish "in the mouth". So they were coming after the yarn/hook and snapping at it. Furtheremore, he was waiting for a strike before pulling the trigger. This is not snagging or flossing as far as I can tell. Not much different from presenting an imitation fly IMHO.

Everyone, the color of the wool was piglet pink. ;)
