My Wife and daughter were at the Mall in Tulalip and she got me the fly reel below at Cabelas. Decent reel at $90 US on half price. You can order via the website and ask for in store pick up - it will be at the store within 8 days and they'll hold it for 3 weeks. Lots of other good gear currently on sale.

For those that aren't aware, and ARE within border drive - there are shipping companies (like PO Boxes) in Blaine (and other border towns) that charge only a couple of bucks to receive your shipment. This cuts down on shipping costs (often free shipping when shipped within the US).
It also cuts down on import costs - often you can bring stuff across the border without any charges (always declare honestly!! LOL). When using fedex or ups or whatever, they charge you a brokerage fee and duty/taxes. I find that when driving through the border, declaring what I've brought, they normally just wave you through.
I use a company called Diversified Shipping but there are tons out there.... http://diversifiedshipping.com/contact-us/
Not to mention, fill up on gas while you're there (yesterday was around 90 cents a litre Canadian) etc etc....

I buy stuff from them all the time - great deals on fishing, camping and outdoor sporting goods/clothes in general. The sales on items listed are normally there for 5 days (fishing right now is 3 days, 15 hours left). BUT if you miss it, keep checking back - they will put it back up after a few days!! Usually the same stuff leftover from the last listing with a few new items thrown in. Stuff is up to 70% off in some cases - cheaper than I can buy through Scouts discount on camping stuff from the manufacturer! It's name brand gear, too! (simms, Patagonia etc)....
-
5d packages is a great place to have items shipped too. Right across the border in Blaine and they are open late.

I personally bought a pair last year, certainly not at this price, and I have been very happy . Vibram sole, very comfortable, and strong grip...

"Shipping: US $55.00 (approx. C $73.13)" kind of takes the lustre off a litle

It's too costly shipping to Canada. You also have to pay duty as well.
You need to get an address in Blaine Washington and have it shipped there, then cross the border to pick it up. Shipping is free mostly in the US. I bought most of my fishing gears on line then have them shipped to the address in Blaine. Crossing the border on weekdays or on Saturday at truck crossing only takes about 15 minutes. Getting back to Canada with a package less than $250 CAD, they will let you go without paying GST.
-
If it's made in the USA there's no duty, only taxes (NAFTA). The part I don't like is even used items such as rods and reels etc, you still have to pay taxes on. I once asked CBSA about this. Their answer, "it's new to Canada".

When I was rebuilding my car last Spring, I bought a lot of stuff online and had it shipped to Blaine.
Many US places don't ship to Canada or the shipping is crazy expensive.
I've brought back stuff as much as $350 without having to pay GST/PST.
I didn't do anything special - just told them what I had & how much it was worth and they waved me through.
Probably has a lot to do with processing costs on their end - not worth the admin costs for $30 or $40.

I know Black Friday is over but I just post it anyway.
Those who are looking for a good affordable centerpin rod, head to Army and Navy in Langley. They are having a promotion sale on centerpin rods and baitcasting rods.
Rapala centerpin rod (11.6", medium power 14 - 20lb, fast action) currently on sale for 129.99. The original price was 199.99. Fishusa.com lists it at 213 US. My friends who have used this for spring and steelhead have only good things to say about it. There is also Trophy Titan XL centerpin rod on sale for $179. Non-sale price is $250. Amundson CP rods and shimano convergence are also on sale for less than 90 dollars.

Thanks for that , I might just check it out tomorrow ;)
