Title: Sasamat - pre stocking - worth a shot?
Post by: BananasQ on April 08, 2016, 09:23:08 AM
FYI, my typical advice would be "get out there and try!" but I was looking at taking my girls fishing (5 & 8) trolling some flies, wedding bands, etc around Sasamat this weekend. The issue is that it hasn't been stocked since October, and my kids are kind of "fair weather anglers". I've checked fishing reports and there isn't much info out there - do you think that there is any chance of us getting into some fish? Few things can take the sheen off a beautiful morning paddling around as much as my bored and whiney kids can. Thanks in advance!

My experience is that Sasamat and Buntzen still have plenty of fish around prior to stockings.
Often it's a matter of finding the school, so trolling can be effective.

Thanks Typhoon - I think I will just risk it then. Will report back if we get into anything.

Sasmat has always been good to me. I never check the stocking dates and it's a usually 50/50 chances of hooking into one. My best advice is stick to the second dock float and a power bait worm. Start at 5 ft depth and if it's warmer I usually go 6 to 7 ft deep.

Got skunked. Trolled the lake 1.5 times before the wind kicked up. Was a beautiful day for it though. :)

Went back today, did not get skunked! Four trout in the boat and one was a big one. Happy dad and happy kids! :D if that was a forum member in the pontoon boat, thanks for the pointers. :)
