So are there any excuses to close the Hatchery Coho season on the Fraser this year? Interior coho hanging around the mouth until December like the sockeye?
-
Looks like DFO is setting the mood for this closure too. Whatever excuse they can come up with, it really has very little to do with the reality at the rivers, that sport fishers with little impact to the protected species is not enough reason to open any fishery If the closure happens, pity all the old and frail oldtimers who can't do much other form of vigorous fishing and are waiting patiently for this once a year fishery that they can still enjoy. But knowing DFO's recent moves, they probably won't give a dame to the oldtimers.
-
because it's DFOs job to entertain the old timers. I'm sure that's what they're Concerned about ::)

I'm an old timer and I want my dame from DFO ;D

Fraser River's hatchery coho salmon fishery typically opens in early October (around the Thanksgiving long weekend). Sometimes it opens earlier, like last year, other years it doesn't open until mid October.

Hands off!
You have a great lady already. Leave DFO dames to us old singletons and divorcees. :P

cant wait for bar fishing. just a nice we to relax and fish. downrigging in the salt is fun and all but have to say bar fishing is right up there for fun factor. last year a buddy of mine came bar fishing for his first time and managed to hook 2 hatchery coho on his bar set up at the same time. he said look two tails, i say your just seeing cupcakes. sure enough 2 on the beach. done for the day.

Assuming of course the DFO will allow a bar fishery. They might close the Fraser to protect the pikeminnows and bullheads. ;)

Or late run sockeye. Remember they like to mill about in the lower until Christmas.
