Thinking of buying a Gloomis Tournament Drifter. Hoping for some info on this reel.
-new price back when they were made?
-approx current value?
-likes/dislikes, review of the reel?
One I'm looking at is in mint condition. Bearing. 4.5 inch.
I did some searching on this site and some of the info I found was:
-originally made by Phil Tichnovick of Lure King. Gloomis contracted him/then to make some with the Gloomis logo on the reels
-Streamside made a knock off of this reel called the FL series
-There is also a "Drifter" which came with higher end rosewood handles. The Tournament Drifter has the plastic handles
-They are a workhorse, tough, well made reel
-They are a little on the heavy side for a 4.5 inch reel
Hoping to get an idea of what these are worth with the current supply/demand of these reels. Also hoping to hear from anyone who has fished one and what they think of it.

Pretty sure there is a current thread on this subject. See some of my replies there
Both of mine came as trades for other goods, so I can not relate them to a dollar value, sorry.

I believe there are a few models some better than others but I just sold one recently for 275, I dont think it had the gloomis logo though. My old beat to shi_ okuma performed better... its heavy, doesnt spin the best and the damn center screw kept coming loose. But on the bright side the handle placement on it is perfect and they look slick compared to some of the franken-milners ive seen on the river. If you like the looks and dont mind a bit of weight Id say go for it as its hard to say how many more you will see for sale

Yeah this thread came up in my search. Sorry didn't notice it was posted a week ago. Looks like a decent reel but I'm not a huge fan of the clicker button on the back plate, prefer the rear lever. I'm sure it's a decent reel but will probably give it a miss.
