Hi
So I have some extra herring. Very fresh and in diff sizes. I was thinking of freezing some for bait/trolling in the summer. How many should I freeze at a time? Should I make organize them all the same size? I guess I just freeze them whole and not gutted?
I have a vac sealer..
Any tips appreciated...thx

Are you going to salt it before you freeze it, or while it’s thawing?

on line advice:
freeze them flat on cookie sheets or on a board with freezer paper shiny side on herring wont stick . then they will be individual, for salmon if your going to brine them haul them out day before let thaw then add salt it absorbs better give it a good overnight or longer to brine, for halibut you dont want to brine them as you want all that stink and oils to ooze to attract halibut... for salmon best to have all scales intact...

Anyone have any tips on catching some herring? I went last march to imperial landing with no luck. I was jigging a sabiki rig. Also are the rules two hooks only or are the 6 allowed. I previously used 2 when I went but saw many others with a full sabiki.
