Title: Shawnagin/Sooke lake
Post by: canucksfan233 on September 07, 2023, 09:23:43 PM
Curious if any of these lakes get salmon as I'm heading over there this weekend.

I know Shawnagin has decent bass fishing, and Sooke is dammed, but do salmon get into Sooke lake?

If they do, how would I go about to catch them?

Quick answer is no.

Sooke Lake is a reservoir (water supply) for the city of Victoria.  No public access.
You can fish for salmon at the estuary when they are in season.

Shawnigan Lake also has falls on its outlet creek which prevents the natural movement of fish upstream.  Volunteers do move fish up it manually and the Coho run has improved because of the better habitat above this fish barrier.
