Title: Roe for sturgeon
Post by: Jelly_ on October 12, 2024, 11:33:38 AM
Hello, how would one prepare roe for sturgeon? Do I cure them the same way as salmon eggs?
Thanks  :)

I currently have some uncured eggs sitting in my fridge and they were previously frozen, should i just freeze them again until i need to use them for bait?

Fresh is best but frozen does work as well.  Find a floater.

Around what time of the season does salmon roe work well for sturgeon? Should be around this time right?

Works all year long, but you want to have more than one type of bait.
Roe, fresh salmon, and floaters would be the top 3 this time of year.

Having participated in sturgeon fishing with my company for five consecutive years, I have consistently observed that Salmon Roe has outperformed all other bait during this time of year

Hands down this time of year fresh chum roe or parts works bes - pinks if it’s a pink year- but chums their favorite... Big bags …if you’re using roe go out and buy cheap ladies nylon stockings for your roe bags ..color doesn’t really matter they don’t see it anyways..and some spider thread to tie the bags. Make big tight balls just under or about tennis ball sized.
Other times of year try a handful of fat juicy dew worms tied up in a roe bag when they’re not hitting anything else.

I'd say golf ball at most.

This is why you’re only getting 3 footers… ;)
