Fishing with Rod Discussion Forum

There's a lot of crap going on in the world and I was driven to fully delete my FB and Instagram accounts. A lot of the communities I belonged to were fishing related with the most recent one I joined being Rod's BC Fishing one. I'm going to miss a lot of the discussions and chats that these groups brought, but I just felt it was time to pull the pin.
That said, I hope I'm not alone on walking away from Meta. Facebook has been where so many of the forums migrated over the years and I am hoping that we start to see people returning to them... if they're still around - Like Fishing With Rod. I'm hoping that with more traffic that it'll make dollars and sense to FWR to keep it alive. I for one would be willing to pitch in, either monetarily or volunteered labour to keep it alive with the goal of seeing a thriving community start to grow.
Maybe I'm wearing rose coloured glasses, but I really do think there is chance we'll see this.
Lets start that discussion!

I should mention that I am NOT a fan of Cheeto in Charge and my use of "Make FWR Great Again" is by all account tongue in cheek. Game on!

yes this place could use some friendly discussion. It's been pretty quiet.

Internet forums are a dying breed unfortunately. Some of them are not even around anymore. If it wasn’t for Ralph posting and commenting on this one it would be even quieter then it is now.

well if anything they have been dead for some time ;D!
This discussion board in particular gets quiet when fishing isn't that great. FWIW I am a member of a half dozen or so local Facebook groups which have been very quiet lately as well.
However if you go up a level to the board index and look at the lower left you can see who is on line and how many guests are having a look. Right now the number of 'guests' is over 900. On Jan 7th there were over 2000. I don't know who they are or perhaps they are 'bots' but my guess there a lot of lurkers who don't post and perhaps are not registered.

From those of us who never left, welcome back @ShaunO 😀

I’m here until the lights go out.

Congrats on the realization. Never had facebook or instagram. Not my thing. Will admit I sometimes use my wifes account to access FB marketplace. Craigslist just doesn't get the foot traffic it use too. The use of social media can cause negative effects in young adults and as been banned in some countries.
I also try to avoid amazon as well. Buy local where I can.
These tech oligarchs have to much power and need to be checked.
In the local news, it appears municipalities are moving from X (formally twitter).

I seem to spend more time on Reddit and less on Facebook these days. Thank God!

Some great thoughts in here so far. I'm hoping that FWR.com's forums will take on a kind of "buy local" movement and see an uptick in traffic as people start to realize what FB and Instagram are doing to them and how their private info is shared for profit by big tech.
Dare to dream, I guess!
