Title: Operation Barbeque Part 2
Post by: chris gadsden on August 25, 2004, 11:17:54 PM
At the SDA meeting tonight the decison was made to pay a peaceful visit to the Federal Cabinet meeting in Kelowna on September 7th.

I know it is a work day but that is the day they are meeting. We need as many as possible to attend if we are going to keep the momentum moving as we have got the attention of FOC and the media now.

This event will have lots of media from across Canada so if we have another good protest we will get media attention across Canada. ;D

We will be assembling at the tourist bureau parking lot just South East of Lickman Road by Heritage Park srarting at 8:30 am and leaving in a convoy at 9 am. Car pooling will tried to be arranged. I imagine some of our computer wizards on this board can post a map pretty quickly.

Please PM me if you need more details and if you plan to attend.

Remember our fish and fishing opportunities are at stake so now is the time to get in and voice your opinons, the time is short.

Chris it's nice to see you post the SDA Kelowna event
I have been looking at this page a number of times but have never responded
As you know I will once again be going
I wonder where all the other responders stand
I have not seen anything other than a map
Sure do hope that there words are accompanied by action
As you know we need a couple of hundred people in Kelowna and I know you were counting on a large group that normally meets on these pages!  I haven't seen any yet.
I also noticed somewhere on thes pages someone asking about Kokanee in Cultus lake and in part someone responded correctly by talking about residualizing Sockeye.  However I can tell you from first hand experience this spring as we set out trap nets to live trap pikeminnows we caught everything from red sided shiners to Coho but never a Kokanee big or small
That does not mean there are non but I sure haven't seen any
Frank

Welcome Frank Kw aboard to the best fishing web site in the World, glad to have you aboard.

With all the committees you sit on the members of this board will be more informed of fishing issues than every before. ;D

As well as welcoming you, thanks for all your dedication to protecting the rec anglers fishing opportunities and looking after our fishes future as well. If members of this board only knew the time and your own finances you contribute to the cause they would be astounded.

Now they know. ;D ;D

Of course thanks to your wife for all her work as well.

Welcome Frank :)
I have been kinda wondering when you might start posting your wise words for us  :D
I know the majority of users on here, including myself, stand to learn a lot from your wisdom and experience in both fishing and in life in general.

However I can tell you from first hand experience this spring as we set out trap nets to live trap pikeminnows we caught everything from red sided shiners to Coho but never a Kokanee big or small

I would have to agree, as long as the Sockeye numbers are as low as they have been the past few years there is very little chance of catching a Kokanee in Cultus Lake.
Maybe one day we will see a run of 50 000 Sockeye in the lake, then there might be a kokanee fishery as well. ;)

By the way, the Kokanee subject change here is known as "hijacking a thread".
Next time we should perhaps continue on the thread already started :)

Heheeh, my favorite thing is when someone hijacks a thread to talk about highjacking threads..  ;D

Further info and reminders

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris has been telling me over and over that you folks who visit this web site are keeners.  Well here is the deal.  The SDA will be holding a protest Sept. 7th. in Kelowna.  The prime minister and all his men will be their.  Including Geoff Regan.
In order for this to come off we need bodies.  People willing to hold an upside down Canadian flag or a number of other protest signs.  Please do not answer me and give me your opinion on the upside down flag.  That has already been around the block and we need not discuss it further.  We will give you a slogan sign instead of a flag.  By the way flags are available at 5 bucks and the money will go toward our defence costs.  If you are interested let me know and I will find a way to get them to you.  You don't have to go to the event to get a flag.
We will rent a mini van holding 8 passengers and as many as we need.  We will meet at the Chilliwack info booth at a time we will tell you about.  It will cost you about $20.00 per person to pay for the cost of the van, fuel, and toll booth fee.  We will be coming back the same day.  The SDA will provide you with a free lunch.  No alcohol permitted.  We want sensible people who will protest legally for our right to fish.  I know many of you will have excuses and I am sure that some are legit.  However if this is in your blood you will find a way to get out and support.
Frank

It's not to late yet.

We are meeting in the parking lot of the Municipal Arena right across the street.
Time is 12:30
Thanks again
Frank

Thanks for the notice Frank. How many people in total are planning to be there? Is Bill going to be making a speech? Will the media be there? What time do you expect the protest to end? Thanks.

We do not know how many people will actually show up but it looks like small numbers but hope more will sign in yet
We will have representation from the guides,FVSS,SDA,BCFDF,BCWF,SFAB/SFAC and some other clubs from the Kelowna Okenogan area.
Bill will be making a speach and will present our beefs to the Minister or one of his elected reps.
By the way the fishery closure announced yesterday needs to go to the Regional reps (SFAC) for conultation and that was not done at least not with me and I am on that conference call Bill also did not know anything about it so it came as somewhat of a surprise.  We will be talking to the department about that as well.
Yes the media will be present so hope to make the evening news.
Protest itself should last no more than an hour.
The vans that we have rented should be back in Chilliwack by 7P.M. at the latest
Frank
