Im lookin for coho flys to go with my new flyrod, any ideas? thanks.
-
Rolled mudlers is always a good bet for coho...my favorite fly for coho in the harrison. I have also been lucky with a simple mickey fin in smaller streams. Good luck.
-
Olive beadhead mudler for the Harrison is my most productive fly. If you're looking for some fun, try a slow retrieve with a black or white wooly bugger for some chums, always fun...just be prepared for a long fight !!!
-
Rolled muddlers, Christmas tree and Kelsey's Hope
-
olive wooly buggers, coho blue, kelseys hope, rolled muddlers and 2 secret creations ;D
leadbelly, did you get my pm?
-
I got t thanks, I wanna get some ideas first before I commit.Do any in circle hooks?
-
Ray your going to try the fly I think thats great :) :)
Like the others have mentioned you can't go wrong with a muddler
Gold with a little blue has never let me down otherwise known as the coho killer
I know one guy that uses nothing but small black leaches and is very succesful.
whatever you try have fun and good luck :)
-
i find that circle hooks arent really needed unless there is tons of fish and the chances of snagging increases. thats when i use them.
-
went out today but had a hard time casting.
Hope I get better soon :P
-
its a good idea to watch you backcast when starting out, it really helps :D
-
Keep practicing have fun one day soon your rod will load up and you will say
THATS IT ! ;D
-
thanks for the words of encouragment
-
You hit yourself in the head with a BB and now you're going to try fly fishing? LOL
Can I get tickets to the practice field ;D
Try an egg sucking leach. Purple leach sucking a pink egg. Good for Steelies as well.
-
i find that the purple egg sucking leech attracts more chum than steelhead, so unless your targeting them i dont really bother until steelhead season ;)
-
I guess Grumman will have to find his own coho this year ;D
-
A matuka, of course. Try it in olive, pink, blue and red. It works really well. 8)
-
since im a noob tyer where would u get pictures for all these flies?? ???
-
go to google and try typing in the names under images. if not go to fishbc, the busy/sell/swap and at the top under pinned topincs, there is a topic about fly tying links. if you cruise around checking those out you may be in luck
-
This link may help too: http://www.guidebc.com/flypatterns.asp
-
thanks guys!
-
Go to fishy links then b.c. links then go to flyfishing and try FLY TYING WORLD
I going to have to learn how to bring the sites on to my posts

Good on ya Leadbelly!
Remember patterns can be specific to different water systems so knowing where you fish would be paramount to knowing what you will want to chuck. ;)
Some good all around patterns that have been left out are some true staples of our rivers.
Try some of these, the recipies are on the net or mail me if you want them. Some ARE my own patterns.
Big Red.
Coho Blue.
Great Gonzo.
Mickey Finn. (Great success with a flash over wing)
Bead head Hare's ear in size 10, 8, black. (gold rib)
Davie Street Hooker. (Caught my first sleelie with this one)
Green butt skunk.
Of course these are all flies meant to be swung along the bottom for salmon and steelies so if you were looking for summer run flies that would be another list.
The deal is to get your pattern down quick in our rivers, so pattern can be almost secondary to getting it down FAST.
Keep them tight. ;D

thanks floon, wayching ya cast all day at the Family fishing day in Steveston this year really helped me to get an understanding of what casting is supposed to look like, still working on it though lol
