Has anyhone been to the Bamfield area recently, and how was the Coho and the Spring Fishing?
-
I was there for the Alberni fishing derbi this past weekend. The fishing was excellent. Both coho and spring fishing was good. Mostly 12-15 pound springs but there was also a few 20-30lbs around. We were fishing with anchovies about 30 feet down. The biggest fish of the derby was apparently 57lbs :o but that wasn't official.
We were just fishing the regular places (the Wall, Scott's Bay, Kirby Point)

just got back from bamfield on friday and it was unreal.for us cohos up to 16 lbs. lots of springs for us the largest was 30 lbs. but let a lot go between 10-20 lbs because of the one over one under rule.no problem getting your 2 coho 2 springs every day.coyote spoons and white hootchies at between 30 and 40 feet on the downriggers.heading back out thursday a.m.for the weekend.

Excellent report. Will be in Port Alberni in a couple of weeks

Thanks for the replies guys, I knew this site would be the best around.
Much appreciated, hope it stays hot for a few more days, and I'll report back when I return.

Thanks Smiley, I'm leaving for Bamfield on thurs morning, fishing Thurs, Friday, and Sat. Yup I've got the downrigger thing happening and also the fly stuff for the Coho.
It should be fun, looking forward to it and the rain too.
We then peel off, to do a guided trip on the Stamp for what ever summer steelies are left and fish there for Sun, Monday before coming home.
