I've done lots of pocket pickin' on the river for ho's but what is your favorite approach and how do you do it?

Key to SCT is a shorter leader. I agree its not for everyone (must be prepared to fish in rather close quarters) but when the river is high, may be most productive way.

Have you ever consider laser eye surgery. I had it done 3 yrs ago and the result is exellent. I can see better than 20/20 (20/15 on one and 20/10 on the other). It has greatly improve my ability to fish. With the help of a really good pair of sunglasses, I can see the fish even in very deep water as well as far away. My friends say that since the surgery, I can see like an eagle. This really helps in all the activities that I am involve with --like hunting fishing, skiing and snorkling.
It is cheaper than having contacts and glasses in the long run. In the last 3 yrs it already paid for itself in terms of savings from the cost of contact lenses, contact lense supplies and glasses.

very short leader... i once went with 6inches of 6lb test!
The shorter the leader, the better the the transfer of momentum to the hook. So, when you swing your rod the hook does not lag too far behind the weight. The longer leader makes it harder to control and time the hook swing.
For beginners, a jighead hook would be very effective. For details look for information on 'Sweet Jigging'.

I prefer just getting up early and having them take my float down in a slow water pool. Or chase a colorado blade under a float. But the best way has got to be with a flyrod.

Absollutely! Taking coho with fly is unquestionably the best way to do it. Specially if its one of your experimental fly --something you design and create. Then, it does not matter what negative things others would say about the flies you made. The important thing is that the fish approves! 8)
