Title: N. Van. Derby, Sat. April 30 results...
Post by: FISHIN MAGICIAN on April 30, 2005, 06:57:01 PM
hi guys...

Just returned from Vanier Park Launch. Met a couple of boats of anglers who were fishing in the North Vancouver Rod and Gun Club? Saltwater Derby today.

Neither boats caught an enterable fish. Entry fees were $50 a boat and each of the boats I greeted had been out since 6 am and report fishing the ______ out of local waters, English Bay, the Slash, Bowen, the Banana, and you name it.

A quick survey of their boats indicated adequate fish finders, downriggers and tackle and rods to do the job effectively.

Their reports were that there was 7 fish entered out of 50 boats for a days fishing.

Apparently they came from the weigh in where first place was a 10 lb spring, and the same entrant had a 6 lb fish entered as well. That leaves 5 fish for 49 other boats.

Both boats reported dirty water, and pesky algae blooms making life difficult.

Pretty depressing fishing recently here.....and with the price of boat fuel, it hardly justifies running all over miles and miles of gods ocean to look for a fish!!!!!!!!

That's why you need to sink your banana weight to the bottom at the end and limit out on dogfish and bullhead before you come home. ;)

Thanks for the report.

Across the straight its about the same. SLOW :P I decided to save my 150$ and not moor the boat this month. Maybe mid march when it heats up. Keep the chuck reports comin!

Hey Kellya...we almost made the run to Thrasher on Friday morning to check it out. Glad I didn't...

This spring fishing has tapered off in the biggest way locally here..I mean..hasn't been red hot on this side for keepers...

Oh well....
