Charges filed in sea lice fight
Jun, 07 2005 - 2:00 PM

VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - The provincial government, the federal department of fisheries and oceans and a major fish farming company are all facing charges under the fisheries act for allowing the discharge of sea lice into the open ocean.

Those charges come from a well-known opponent of the fish farm industry.

Researcher Alexandra Morton says she filed the charges as an individual because governments are not protecting the wild salmon of the Broughton Archipelago.
Morton says her four years of research has proven that fish farms concentrate sea lice that then prey on wild salmon…

"What I have hoped to achieve from the very beginning, from the first sea lice I found on the fish in 2001 is just to stop this, stop allowing these sea lice out into the water."

Keep up the pressure!
CJ.
