Before anyone decides to go out and take shore crabs for bait, please read this.

Just a matter of time before DFO impose a limit on sea worms. ::)

I'm pretty sure there is a limit on sea worm if it is not already prohibited to harvest them. Would you like me to find out tomorrow? ;)

Nice pile perch you got. It's so hard to get them at Ambleside as most of the time shiners will be first to take the bait. or pick off the bait.

how big do those striped perch get? i've caught surf and pile perch at fairly big sizes, but never the striped ones any larger than 11 inches. i love their color though.

I find that the trick is to use a larger hook (I like size 6).  Then the shiners won't get stuck and you can uses a larger piece of bait so it takes longer for them to eat it off.  ;)

I love stripped perch.  For the size they're about the scrappiest fish going!

In a blind taste test you couldn't tell the difference between stripped and pile perch.  Plus, stripped perch are magnificent to behold. :o

I find that thick sea worms are the best for big perch .. the shiner perch do nible but they get scared when the sea warms are quite thick.. i use the head of the sea worm because its almost like a leather and stays on for about 5 catches..

they stick to the side of docks, about a foot below the surface of the water in tubes.

Perch or sea worms?   Perch, yes, very.  Seaworms, well... a little less so  :P  ;)

The only problem I have with fishing with sea worms is that if I'm catching seaworms I'm not fishing!!  I'm sure you see my trouble.

phat wop i think you are thinking of tube worms...they work great for greenling but not so much for perch in my experience!  Sunshine coast a couple years ago i had a MASSIVE seaworm bite me.  it hurts like hell...they have a jaw in the front like a dragonfly nymph, it comes out just like "aliens" and locks on...YYEEEEOOOUUUCCCHHH!!!  Try it yourself for some fun !

Nice work Jighead!

the tube worms work amazing for perch, rock cod, and greenling in my experience. i used to just break open some mussels that were stuck to the rocks, but they seem to get smaller every year and a hassle to shuck. those sea worms under rocks are vicious...i hate touching those things.....they are like giant centipedes.

I think people are getting a little confused by what is meant by "sea worms".  First there are the onces that are found in sand and under rocks.  These are actually 2 different species of worms, the clam worm and the blood worm.  Clam worms are smaller, blood worms look like really big clam worms but release what looks like blood if cut.  An tube worms of course live in the tubes stuck to stuff.

I just thought those tidbits would be of use. ;D
