Headed out to the Chehalis this morning, was cold and rainy!!!!! Imagine that!!!!! ;) ;) But there were a few fish around, started out good. Hooked a nice ho about 10 min in. Then had to work through chum after chum with a few springs thrown in to hook into a second about 6 hrs later. A real nice 6 or so lb, bar chrome doe. This one was a hatchery, so...... The first one I couldn't tell you, it decided to long line release itself. But there was some action. Not a lot but enough to make me want to go try again at the next possible chance. Will post pics in a while, still having a hard time getting the pics from the camera to the computer!!!!!! ::) ::)
Overall, a nice day. It was funny, when I hooked that first ho, I wasn't cold anymore ;D ;D

started my day off at the chehalis, dont even waste your time the water is so low i dont even know how the fish make it up into the hatchery. Moved to the vedder, what a disaster, took a nap on the side of the river ( that was the best part of the day). Should have stayed home. Seasons over.
-
Season over, I doubt it :) when people said they could not catch fish at all, I was still calmly bringing fish in, im sure you can still find fish if you know where to find them :)
Sorry, but weren't you the one catching 40 coho just about 5 days ago?
-
ya that was me, seasons over.
-
I Don't think the season would be over from 5 days!? there surely must be fish! also, squamish I hear is just starting to produce fish!
-
sage rod 600 dollars
Garcia real 160
waders,boots,vest,gear,gas?
Going to safeway and buying a fish Priceless
40 coho i Know i Know but this year sucks bad, i remember previous years when you'd limit out all the time.
-
Atleast we had fish. maybe previous years limiting out fish all the time is what brought us here!
-
the hatchery doesnt know what there doing ???
-
funds cut? the freshwater and salmon tag licenses are so dam expensive now
-
Hey Big Steel. I thought I recognized you! I was standing right beside you (on your left) today! Next time, I'll be sure to say hello. ;)

What are you talking about??? They havent changed in a few years. Please do your research before posting stuff like this. With my licence and tags for everything I am just over $100 which is nothing for a full year of fishing. Dont complain about the prices because other places in the world are allot more expensive and dont have near the fishing we do.
Oh and the season is not done. Just because you got skunked doesnt mean they werent there. Sheesh ::)

I recently returned from a biz trip to Singapore. Spent a Sunday sitting in the sun at the largest "pay-to-fish" pond there (there are no natural lakes). Rate was C$20/HOUR! Stocked with barramundi (sea bass) average 3-5 lbs. Gong show - but no snagging allowed. Anyway, I got to appreciate how lucky we are with our fisheries, and the bargain we get them at.

The fees of freshwater conservation surcharge stamps of both salmon and steelhead have gone up once. Although not expensive to some (to some it maybe), but it did increase.

Its still cheap. Golfnut you should stick to golfing if thats your attitude! We may have yet to get a strong run of coho in....its slow right now but everything has been late this year, as far as Ive heard...plus with the heavy rains a couple of weeks ago that probably pushed alot of fish through rather than have them hold and be easier to catch in some systems....but the numbers in the hatchery being low indicate either an alarming mortality rate for this years returns or the possibility that alot of coho are still to make their way in. But hey...if youre gonna give up that will leave a few fish for the rest of us to catch!

Ahmen!!!
-
lol last year I was catching fresh fish till january in the rivers.
-
checked some of last years reports and the vedder still had chrome coho being caught in late november by some members. although this year i have noticed quite a few more chum in the vedder than last years. this i think is directly affecting the coho fishing in the vedder this year.
-
could be, since the coho tend to get a little gunshy when those pushy buggers are around!
-
Jeeze, talk about short term memory...werent we all discussing warm water currents changing the migration path of the sockeye early in the summer? At that time the run was comming at at 400K and everyone was worried about a disaster. In the end, sock numbers reached a respectable 11mil+.
Do you think that the same forces that caused our socks to return the latest they ever have maybe, just maybe, are affecting our coho too?!?

The sockeye showed up late, for sure, but there sure as hell wasn't 11 million of them when they did arrive.
-
8,774,500
-
;D, Rod what sources do you have to substantiate that number, I thought 8,943,001 was the actual number.
-
ya , short term memory is the problem.. The coho fishing is just getting hot now.
-
8.7 mil...is that total return, return past mission, etc etc??? I thought they upgraded the run to 11 10 days after we got our opening?
Either way, the bulk of the fish were late.
-
8.7 million is the preliminary estimated final return of the 2005 Fraser River sockeye salmon.
I'll break it down into individual stocks a bit later on when I have time to type them out.
-
Yeah salmon fishing is done, you should all just give your gear to me and go golfing :D ;D
-
Sorry, My computer was down for a couple of days!!!! So I was n't able to tell golfnut that if he was at the chehalis, and there was not water, then he was at the wrong spot and if he had of decided to wask a little bit, he would have found a raging river. :P :P The water was so high that I couldn't get into the runs that I wanted to fish!!!!! ::) ::)
Also Flyfishin Magician, was it your wife that caught the 2 nice hoes, or were you the oriental gut beside me, you looked fairly young???? Not sure on that one!!!!! ;) ;)
-
The fishing isn't over yet dude, the fish are still coming in, just not in real large numbers. ;)
-
Hey Big Steel. I was the "oriental" dude fishing beside you. Actually - you started off on my left, then later ended up on my right. As for my wife - there's no way that she'd go fishing with me! I just can't get her into it. But she is very good about letting me go out! Anyway - maybe I'll see you out there again! ;)
-
Oh yeah - as for looking young - THANKS! :)
-
No prob!!! LOL
