A 40 pounder just for you :o wow your my hero. Also is it just me or do people catch more dollies in the winter and if so why?

No it was shared between me and my buddy...........and ya you catch more dollies in the winter because of the low vegetation, lower water they stack up in pools, and there is searuns also for dollies during the winter.

Just remember the dollies are just coming back from spawning they are hungry hungry hippos

I've never had much success fly fishing. Only caught them on blue floxes. What flies work?

I use many diffrent flies......... but normally i catch them on Minnow patterns, also egg, leach patterns work great .................. just remember that its not hard to catch them they are very aggressive fish the difficult part is to find them but if u do find them you can find your self catching them all day out of that one pool

The bull trout/dolly varden fishery is a good alternative in the winter if you get frustrated with steelheading. They are more abundant, but like chromie has brought up, they still require quite a bit of work to find. They tend to congregate in a particular section of the river, so if you manage to find one fish, chances are there are others around. The fish range between 2 and 4lb, but some get much bigger than that. The flies/lures/presentations used to target them change throughout the season as their diet changes. We've had good success fishing with single egg patterns in January and February, while minnow patterns seem to work wonderfully in late March and April. The Fraser River and tributaries can also be excellent for them from now until June. I've found that June fish in the tidal Fraser are the strongest due to the amount of salmon fry that they feed on.
