Started out this morning in the Train Bridge area - nothing. Wind was blowing pretty good making it a bit chilly - I think I must have looked like the Pilsbury Dough Boy with all the layers. I had the run above the Train Bridge all to myself for about an hour.
Went to the upper river around lunch and all I caught was a tomatoe coho. Had to keep cleaning the ice out of the guides. Both places I fished I had all to myself...not many fishers out there yet.
River is low and crystal clear.
any suggestions on ways to keep the guides free of ice?

nice report, heading out sunday. I hate the ice on guides. but i dont think theeres much to do about it

I just dip my rod in the water every so often.

-

Fished Browne Road area, End of the Road and even took a peak ;) at the Boundary hole, had never been up there before. Only saw what looked to be one guy playing a fish in the lower river. This was the only action I saw all day. Cold but beautiful day to be out.

Also fished the Vedder today after work. Never saw another person and never hooked any fish. I was fishing mid-river.

birdman, was too far away to identify. Will have to remain a mystery. Spoke with a guy at Fred's and he said there was one Steelhead weighed in this morning.

Apply lamb oil to the guides. It'll keep it free of ice.

Rub on some vasoline get good lubrocation that way ;) , Worked for me at the "T" 8)

OK i have the best way to keep the ice off. Catch fish all the time and get your line moving around all the time. ::)
-
i heard that if you rub onion on to your guides they won't freeze up. haven't tried it yet but let me know if it works.

Lambs Navy Rum will keep the ice off ;)
I'll second the Jensen anise oil, it really does work and might mix well with the rum?????

It also keeps the ice off the fisherman as well.

I don't think the fish would like the onion smell on the line. ;)
Use thermal eyes on your rod. ;)

Anise oil ??? Isn't that a bit messy ::) I use Stanley's Ice-off paste by Loons Outdoors, it is specifically designed to keep ice from forming on your rod guides and its safe to use on all kinds of lines. It's easy to apply, just use a q-tip and coat the guides with the paste before wetting a line. Infact yesterday, I was fly fishing in sub-zero temps without any ice on the guides :D

Where do you purchase the product ?
-
Purple Haze, don't you think our waters have enough pollution going into it? No need for WD40 >:(
-
I've never fished in weather so cold :P
-
FA, Stanley's Ice-off paste should be available at any local tackle shop that is a Loon's Outdoor dealer. I think Searun tackle and M&Y have it, or just call a shop to inquire if they have it before heading on out there ::) More info on that product can be found here www.loonoutdoors.com/cleanerslubricants
