Title: Steelhead Length = Lbs.
Post by: Last Cast on January 29, 2006, 02:58:39 PM
What's the rule of thumb on steelhead length versus weight?  Thought I saw this somewhere receently, but can't find it now.  I caught a 30 in. bullet today and just wondering.  My day was over in about 10 mins.   ;)

Another guideline is that a 30" steelhead is approx. 10 lbs. Add or deduct a lb. for every inch up to 3 inches. For example a 33 inch steelhead will be 13 lbs.

whatever the size is you can deduct 20".......this is close but only up to 40"  so a 30" fish would be 10 lbs..

A great guidline is that a 25" fish weighs 5 lbs. and for every inch add one pound, This works extremely well for fish up to approx. 35"---which would be 15 lbs. After they get bigger than 35" this method does not work as well becauase when the fish get that big there are more variances to take into consideration.

I don't know how accurate this would always be!!  The fish in my avator measured 36.5", but only weighed in at 12.76lbs !!! ;)
