Title: Nearest lake for lake whitefish to Vancouver
Post by: UMAKKO on January 31, 2006, 11:53:01 PM
I am new in BC.  I wonder if anybody has caught lake whitefish in lower mainland, Okanagan, Kootenays, Thompson/Nicola or Cariboo regions.  Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Francois lake north of George has them as do many of the lakes in the far north. Fransois actually had a comercial fishery for Whitefish back in the 1930's.

The lake whitefish popualtions in southern B.C. ie Okanagan, Kootney, etc. were all introduced in the early 20th century in the hopes of creating commercial fisheries.
