Great deal on a fly rod...
« on: March 31, 2006, 01:32:34 AM »

I came across the Army and Navy flyer and they have some China made fly rods for only $10. I know what you guys are thinking, ya they're made in China, but what isn't made in China these days?

I bought one rod, for a back-up for longer trips. I tested it out on Thursday and they perform pretty well. They have three lengths 8ft, 9ft, and 10ft, all at 5/6 WT. I suggest getting the 9ft rod, the action is better then the 10ft. great idea for gifts or just to learn/teach/play. check it out.

The manufacturer only counts if you want bragging rights. A good rod is a good rod; it doesn't matter who makes it!

You gets what you pay for...  But i have yet seen any rods less then $50 bucks that actually worth your money or even worth your time to look at it.

Your better off getting something a little better. No need to break the bank a lot of compaines produce good entry level rods. Unless of course all you plan on doing is trolling. Crappy rods tend to lead to crappy casting technique that can haunt you later on.

i was thinking just having it for back up when i head up to the interior, i have decent rod, but it doesnt hurt to have a spare. if ur out in the bush away from any shops id rather have a crappy rod then a bad one.

If you never break the decent ones, the backup ones can be great wading sticks. ;D

Always good to have a back up rod cohokid. Another thing you could do with a rod like that other than trolling is to use it to throw out an indicator and fish a chronie, scud, micro leech etc. ender it and use the other rod for casting.
