Interior Fraser River stock left out after(aggressive) lobbying by B.C.(Conservative) MPs

The federal Conservatives are under fire for reversing a Liberal decision to designate a B.C. salmon stock as an endangered species.

From today's Sun

La'toy Hearn has shown his stripes as preferring salmon farming to "help" wild stocks rebuild. This probably "helps" his investment portfolio as well. They quote a spokesman  whose name is Steve "Outhouse" to give us the brief. Some  other notables who strongly support this are Randy Kemp and former MP John Duncan.

To quote the Sun

"Hearn discreetly announced the decision not to award special protection to the Fraser River coho in the final paragraph of a brief news release on April 7, THE DAY AFTER THE CONSERVITIVE CABINET DECISION."

Conservative doesn't necessarily mean conservation.

Seems an effort was made to slip this one under the radar... >:(
Guess "endangered" status would limit the governments attempts to keep everybody happy  >:(

This decision was in the works long before the change of power in te4h government, as it was the Liberals who also decided not to list cultus and sakinaw sockeye.

The de-listing of interior coho salmon was discussed a week ago at:
