I noticed on the dfo website that there is a area "E" opening starting on Tuesday. Now what exactly is area "E" and is this for Native or the regular commercial fleet? Please help.

Will be up as far as Mission Bridge. Personally I am glad the commercial boys are finally getting a share of the surplus sockeye as the other two sectors in most cases have had their share of sockeye already.

I agree whole heartedly. These guys have lost their shirts in recent years, its not easy being a commercial fisherman anymore. Anyone that is upset over it is just greedy.....

i dont think the fraser should be even open for sockeye fishing anymore, especially netting. the runs simply cannot take anymore netting, commercial or native, and if that means closure to sportys as well, so be it, as long as the runs are protected.

I'm with Chris and Eddie99..... I think the commercial boys deserve some time on the river as well.... they didn't get a sniff last year.
The numbers are alot stronger now coming through Johnston Straights, so the fish are still coming.

From what I read, the anticipated return this year is 17,000,000 sockeyes; the best in the last 5 years.

How will this opening affect the river during the rest of the week?  I agree they certainly deserve it!

i agree that they deserve a chance like everyone else and after their opening then dfo should close the sox's,that way everyones had their shot at it this year

In the past things slow down the day after the opening and it takes around 60 hours more before the fish are back in the Chilliwack area. This time table will change further up river of course.

i know its a 10 hour opening on tuesday, but at what actual time do they start fishing? if its early in the morning wednesday might be ok, probably wont be ok to fish until friday sometime.

Just got back in from unloading a boat. 950 fish later I am able to type the amount of fish to you. Hard work lifting that crane and unloading but was worth it in the end.

Hey chris,do sockeye travel slower than springs?  We have caught 3/7 springs with sea lice on them and 1/3 socks had sea lice (this was from pegleg).  Now I have bee told that seas lices die once they hit fresh water...24hrs in the little tail falls off and then within 48 hrs the head is gone.  This would mean the fish we caught with sea lice are getting to chiliwack well before 48 hrs let alone 60?!?
